Thats a really nice reel - looks like it would last a lifetime and very smart too. I was fishing the same river last weekend and saw lots of fish (probably around 50). They were all lower down the river. Wonder if they are heading up the Isla or Tummel and that's why you weren't seeing them.

Nice watch, Robert! I hardly ever bother salmon fishing these days, and if I do it's on club water that I've already paid for! Hated blanking even in the good old days! But you gave it a shot! Well done! I think I'd be on a trout ticket where I could admire the river and have a stronger prospect of sport! Take care, Dave👍👍

@robertdoesfishing15 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching mate. I think one of the adjoining beats puts fish in and I occasionally come across the odd stockie there. Just had a feeling about that one, it might not have been right enough. Absolutely up for that. I’m zoned in on trying to get my first salmon of the season. Frustrating stuff 😂

Couple lovely wee trout lad. I’ve been having the same thoughts on the river lately mate seems there’s very little rising fish 95% of my catching is on the nymphs at the moment. Going to head up the river today here’s hoping the rain hasn’t washed it up too much
@robertdoesfishing28 күн бұрын
Thanks very much for watching pal. Yeah been hearing similar stories all over. Maybe I should have waited for a bit right towards dusk hopefully I can get another shot soon with the lighter nights in full swing now. How did you get on at the river?
@Adventuristic8928 күн бұрын
@@robertdoesfishing actually very good day mate got a couple to come up & take the dry but only got one to the net & landed a good 7 or so with the nymphing rod none a decent size right enough but loved it. First time using a semi auto fly reel it was bliss 😂

Where on the river are you Robert I fished the Irvine from Crookedholm past Cappie in the late 40s when I was 9 tae the late 60s When I moved away from killie tae Argyll. but mainly round about The Struthers down by the Scott Ellis. It was a wonderful river back then. Love yer vid.

Youre doin a combination of single and double spey casts, rather than the actual cast in the first pool. If it was working for you id of not said owt.

I was down barskimming Monday 11ft oracle switch 550g skagit and running line with intermediate tip 10ft. Was fishing and casting effortlessly but still no fish lol. Keep going is all I could say.
@robertdoesfishingАй бұрын
Cheers Fraser, aye that all we can do keep at it. Eventually something will grab the fly. Persistence and perseverance is the name of the game . Good to know the line your using, I have a 11ft 7/8 Shakey Oracle which I'm currently using with a John Norris Integrated switch line with a 375gr head and its kinda hit and miss for me when Spay casting with it. But I like having the option of single handed overhead casting with it too. Im all about the versatility :)
@FraserCheyneАй бұрын
@@robertdoesfishing I find a heavier head works so much better. I don't go by the book so to speak, I buy cheap (ebay chinese made) skagits of different weights and see which does the job then you can stick to that or buy a premium line of the same weight and length.
