I don't think the comic "died" nor was it "killed" it just "ended." That's what any good comic should do. The fact it wrapped up into a nice ending at all is a marvel in itself, but that might also explain why there was such a long gap between releases near the end. Hussie had to take a while and think "ok how does this end??" Now Homestuck as an IP is a different story. Spot on with the breakdown around the Kickstarter nonsense. He put too many irons in the fire. I think Psycholonials, which Hussie made more recently, is a great example of his writing when he has time to make a complete thing, without having constant fan feedback.

I think the Minions followed Julius Caesar. He certainly fits the bad guy role as far as historical figures are concerned (I know he has non-radical fans, but so does Napoleon) but him getting assassinated fits with the Minions getting their masters killed. I'll leave it up to you how the Minions' antics led to Brutus and his conspirators deciding to kill the guy

the plot twist of candy not being some crazy fic where john is the sole character who is canon threw me for a goddamn loop. u had me thinking that all of that was true (and SO DID JOHN) but after you explained it all it really made sense. i fell for it because i am using this video as a recap since your analyses are amazing and i genuinely enjoy watching all of them.
@StoriThomas-je2tx5 күн бұрын
i haven’t fully finished the video yet but i also feel that johns retcon and abilities to indirectly snowball things into other bigger things out of his reach could be the reason why candy’s plot is pretty effed up. he’s like the dirk that meat is to candy. but in a john way.

Wow, this is an awesome video! As someone who had only finished the comic... TODAY I found a lot of enjoyment in it and I even got emotional at the ending because homestuck meant so much to me, even if at times it was disappointing or poorly written. Also, this video is very informative and gives me ideas for my own sburb story on how i can possibly avoid the same mistakes hussie made. though that project is one that has only really ever stayed in my head lol.

Dont cherubs bleed normal blood? Like, caliborn bled bright candy red and.. i dont remember what calliope bled but if its green than that would imply the Penguin is morally good. Homestuck was garbage from the start. Hideous design, cringeworthy characters, and pretty much responsible for the creation of Undertale.

this whole enlightenment “choose your destiny” sthick is never satisfying. homestuck played into traditionally satisfying narrative construction only to bring out the postmodern meta nihilism sermon right at the end and undo it all. it’s maybe what people want out of a clever novel, but it’s not what they want out of a story, a tale and a myth, and that’s what homestuck evolved into. it undermined the emotional undercurrent bolstering the rest of the series to try and be all clever and philosophical and it failed. it’s not what people wanted
@caseyjarmes18 күн бұрын
@@rabbitrun777 disliking the epilogues for being more meta than the original Homestuck is fine, but let’s not kill ourselves. Homsetuck was always post modern meta nihilism. It never played into traditional narrative construction. And, quite frankly, the meta stuff leads to beautiful emotional undercurrent in the epilogues. I also disagree with the “people didn’t want this” take because lots of people did want it. I wanted it

As a Homestuck fan who hasn't read the eplilogues nor V2, and who's favorite character is Jade... WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT GETS WORSE FOR HER AFTER SHE HAVING NO RESPECT FOR HERSELF AS A PERSON COMPROMISING DAVE AND KARKAT'S RELATIONSHIP, BEING MIND CONTROLLED FOPR A GOOD CHUINK OF THE EPILOGUES AND HER DAUGHTER IS A PRODUCT OF AN AFFAIR BETWEEN SHE AND ROSE!? Let alone the dog penis, (which is still uncomfortable knowing she got it at 16 in the best scenario) but the whole situation is just so sad for both Jade AND Kanaya

Hay. A trans woman here who wants to express her thoughts on the "Jade thing that wasn’t talked about 13 times." I will preface this by stating I have not read the epilogues, or beyond canon yet. (Though I’m slightly more likely to read at least the epilogues bc of this video.) I am just relying on info from this video and others like Sarah Z's video. Most of it isn't about Yiffy or Rose having her behind Kenya's back (as I think I mostly agree with what you've said.) I’m just going to cut to the chase with what I want to say here. The "Jade’s lower bits" thing to me doesn’t feel like a "trans thing"; it feels like the "weird/creepy gender-bendy fetish crap that kept me in the closet for a decade" thing. I’ll be honest: my views on the Jade thing are 95% shaped like that. I get you can, like, share your own opinions on it and whatever, but it honestly feels weird to hear a cis guy (I'm assuming your cis) assume the only reasons people would be off-put by it are "furry crap" or "transphobia." I can believe most of the adverse reactions to it would be transphobic (because, of course, a transphobe would think that the Jade thing would be the same thing as a trans woman’s experience.) But it’s not the same. The only similarity is "that," but for a trans person like myself, it doesn't feel like a trans narrative. It doesn't make me feel empowered, or allows me to see myself in Jade. It just feels like weird, perverted fetish content that reinforced my denial/self-loathing/repression and convinced me that my feelings were wrong and perverted. Nowadays, it just makes me feel uncomfortable because it reminds me of that..) If Jade was literally just a Trans Woman, and everything else was exactly the same (except for the doggy lower bits part, and presumably they didn't make a big deal about her lower bits or discuss or acknowledge them beyond "who she can have kids" with), that wouldn’t make me uncomfortable compared to explaining it with the prototyping from Jadesprite and Bec. The second thing we got is not the same as my, or almost any other trans person’s experience. Then again, I will add that this happening in "the universe where f-ked up and disturbing fanfiction BS happens" makes me (slightly) less put off by it? But then again, the whole "people and reality are going crazy because we’re in a bad fanfic now" is kind of muddled with the ending of Candy (from how you’ve described it in the video) because that’s currently both left unexplained and is more confusing learning that some of the characters aren’t just inflicted with "the fanfic madness." Like, if it was revealed the "Jade lower bits" thing was because of the Candy’s canon’s dissolving thing, I’d at least think, "Oh ok, this is just the f-ked up fetish fanfiction madness showing its head in this reality. It’s a part of the meta-commentary and not some weird as f-k thing Hussie for some reason crammed in for no reason because he’s weird." Because that goes into the whole thing you were talking about with the fic deconstructing bad and weird/creepy/disturbing fanfiction, (which is again muddled with the whole "but it’s still unclear why f-ked up stuff keeps happening, while only some of the people have gone mad" thing.) And I will add the rest of the trans rep I’ve heard in this video (that’s not the Jade thing because that’s *_not_* trans rep) actually sounds kind of interesting and might push me to make a video essay analyzing it once I get around to reading the epilogues or beyond canon. I just wanted to share my thoughts on the whole Jade thing as I felt like what you said in the video kind of dismissed most of the discomfort as "transphobia," (even though as I've said, I can believe that transphobia could be some of the reason bc transphobes are dumb.) I kind of wish this section at least acknowledged what other trans folks felt about it, as it felt weird to only hear a (presumed cis guy’s) view on it.

@@caseyjarmes That's cool. Should probably restate again that these are just the opinions and views of one trans person, and my discomfort largely comes from my past experience that not all trans folks may have. (and also one who hasn't even read Beyond Canon, *_or_* the epilogues.) Probably good to see what other trans fans of Homestuck thought of Yiffy's backstory/origins, as I only just finished Homestuck like a few days ago.

I think the reason people hate the epilogues is because they were tired of the hiatus and Hussies humor and style. I know technically Hussie didnt write it, but he was basically the director. So I believe atp the game the fandom was promised was still not developed fully, even though they got 2m to do it and it was causing restlessness. I think another huge reason is because the people who had been obsessed with homestuck no longer liked Andrew Hussies story progression and writing. i think a lot of people no longer found enjoyment with the gotcha's and retcons, they expected something amazing and were left with a middle finger, because thats the type of person Hussie always was and he will never change. A huge part of the fandom grew up and moved on from this type of humor and media. It kinda reminds me of the Game of Throne's tv ending, in a way that It fell short of peoples expectation, to the point the fans felt betrayed. We have to remember it wasnt Hussie who made homestuck so popular, it was the fandom, it was the artists who made parodies, animations, cosplay, headcanons. So when the fandom started hemorrhaging the story no longer had a hugely chaotic and diverse pool of ideas from the community to pull from, they no longer had that connection and it made people feel disconnected from the epilogues. A lot of people don't want to admit that there are some amazing concepts portrayed in homestuck, but at the end of the day the story writing Hussie has is so convoluted and i genuinely feel like he never had a ending for homestuck in general, so a group of people had to mimic hussies writing and style. That in itself sounds like a pain. I didnt like the epilogues because it didnt satisfy me and left me more confused then ever, just wasnt my style anymore.
