Thanks for the video. What is the "squarest" most stable tire for the 5" hub? I have an 11"x6.0-6 Hoosier on my V1 - which I love, and apparently the same on my XR. But the XR tire is a "Float life" variant of the Hoosier... I guess... and it's much rounder. I didn't know this until I had bought them. I hate them. It scares the life out of me as it doesn't feel as "planted". I am old (56) so maybe I am not as thrill-seeking. I am nervous I'll end up with another tire that I don't like and I find it a pain in the butt to change the tires - which you make look easy. I've done 10,000 miles on the V1 so I have probably become very used to the "square" Hoosier. I would really appreciate your advice. Many thanks.

I'm afraid I can't give you any recommendations based on personal experience. I'm always trying to avoid this because the sharp shoulder makes it harder to carve. The early OW tires were just standard kart tire which they try to keep as flat as possible for maximum contact patch. I would look for an 11x7-5. The 7" width with give you maximum stability, assuming your OW can handle it. Is this for a GT, or did you get a 5" hub for your XR? Hoosier makes an 11x7.1-5 that will fit on the gt and has got to be super stable. cometkartsales.com/collections/tires/products/hoosier-r55-11x7-10-5-slick-tire. There's also a burris tx11 if you want treaded. cometkartsales.com/collections/tires/products/burris-11x7-00-5-tx-11. Good luck. Let me know what tire you end up going with and how you like it.

@@irionmotorsports Hi. Thanks so much for your reply. First, I am a dumb ass, I said "Float Life" variant of the tire, I meant "Flight Fins" - they did a collaboration with Hoosier and made a unique tire. I guess this was much more rounded. I have 3 x XR's now - quite ridiculous because I just keep using the V1 with my 11"x6.0-6 Hoosier tire. I love the stability of this tire. I keep using the V1 as it is so beaten up that I don't care what happens to it... but it just keeps going. And the weather can be quite awful here in the UK (I live in Oxfordshire) and I don't stress about the rain/snow/mud, etc. and I don't mind if it eventually breaks - and if I get hauled up by the police and the board is taken from me, then it's probably less than £500 that I'll lose. They are illegal in the UK. And I want to finally break 10,000 miles too... and I'm at about 9.5k at the moment. So my goal is to move to the XR's. I don't have anything else and don't want to go for the GT's etc, as there is no way I want to get involved in "bricking" it due them being awkward with the newer models - as in they have "locked them down" - a bit like the iPhones from what I understand. I haven't bought a 5" hub yet - partly due to them always being "sold out" and partly because I don't know which one to get. 1WheelParts or Float Life? I don't know. But the added tire wall and sponginess looks very cool to me - and I'm just trying desperately to figure out what to buy. My main concern is the tire, as I don't want it to be too "carvy" as I find it a bit too much (feels like the tire is like a ball). I prefer it being planted and going straight is more preferential to me. Thanks again for your comments - I really appreciate your help! All the best, Duncan.

@irionmotorsports Thank you for this great content! Question… I’m about to purchase the Smart Home Panel to go with my two F3800s. It comes with a 12 circuit backup subpanel but I noticed that you used your own and have 15 circuits included. Does that mean I’m not limited to selecting only 12 backup circuits?
@irionmotorsports
@irionmotorsports Ай бұрын
Yeah, I didn't like their panel and I run all ge panels here. You can run as many circuits as you want. You're just don't want more load on the sub panel than what your pack or packs can handle. It's not like it will hurt anything, it will just trip your breaker and then you won't have backup power.

I have this same system. The reason they suggest the 80/20 is so that during the day, if your house isn't using much at a given moment, then there is room in the battery to charge. Otherwise your excess solar production is lost. This way the extra charge you get during sunshine then gets spent in the evening is the battery returns to 20. Took me a week to figure this out. If you know a storrm is coming, there is a mode for that which will have you storing extra. This strategy doesn't work I guess if you have an unreliable grid. I have 8 200 W panels, w/ pairs in series, I think their 26V and 10+Amp panels each. I would love to get a 2nd unit and 8 more panels, but hard to justify.

The video seems to indicate it can, but just to be 100% clear: are you able to draw a load from the F3800 through the Smart Home Panel while simultaneously charging via the dedicated solar ports (2400W Max) on the F3800? I.e. if the grid goes down are you able to run your refrigerator/etc while also charging via solar?
@irionmotorsports
@irionmotorsports Ай бұрын
Yes, that's the primary use for these. The one thing you can't do is charge via ac while connected to the smart panel. I.E. you couldn't use a small generator to charge it while it runs your panel.

Hi , those 560 watts panels that you talk about . How many panels on each port can you add to 1 f3800 , in series or parallel ? Thanks
@irionmotorsports
@irionmotorsports Ай бұрын
You would only run them in parallel. Do not run them in series. You can run as many as you want on each port, but you're going to get diminishing returns after 2. The f3800 will only pull up to 25amps. Since the 560w panels have a maximum output of 13.3a which means in full direct summer sun 2 panels will put out up to 26.6a which is more than the power pack can draw. However mornings, evenings, winter and cloudy days will not give you full power. If you ran 3 panels on each port you would produce more power in non-direct sunlight, but on sunny days, you wouldn't be able to make use of all of the wattage that the panels are capable of producing. Does that make sense? It would be easier to explain if I had as whiteboard.

Superchargers, especially when combined with turbos, are unbelievably complex, you are literally the first person I've seen successfully dial it in just-right. Even professional engine developers like those guys who made that last twin-charge Lancia engine still just copped-out by using bypasses, which is kinda cheating since you don't have to dial anything in, it'll work regardless. But unless you use a clutch on the supercharger drive then you're losing power for no reason at all when bypassing. Luckily it's not uncommon or hard to obtain such clutches. However as to your comment on downstream supers, the reason people attempt it is I think because THEORETICALLY, superchargers in-general, especially non-centrifugal ones, SHOULD get more & more efficient as the air density increases, due to their positive-pumping nature. But as you mentioned it seems to not work like that in reality, at least with high overdrive. The fact even Mr. Banks himself didn't get it right theoretically at all just goes to show how ridiculously-complex twin-charge setups really are!
@irionmotorsports
@irionmotorsports 2 ай бұрын
With some more testing a figured out that I need a bypass, but I was able to use a simple one way valve to another air filter. There's a part 2 video that covers the original bypass, and then I refined it and piped it into a single large air cleaner in another video. It works awesome now. I've got about 10 races on it, and I finished 6th overall in the line mtn series this year. I almost never use wide open throttle, it's just too much.
@bo-dine7971
@bo-dine7971 16 күн бұрын
@@irionmotorsports Wow I see. Still I bet it rarely opens right? I'll watch the later vids later on, thanks. Also I realised this is the perfect setup for uniflow 2-strokes (Detroits & alike), you no-longer have issues of varying airflow as the supercharger keeps it constant while the efficiency overall after turbo spools-up is very high, I'm surprised it hasn't been done before, though I guess since the Roots Detroits used in turbo engines don't actually generate boost I guess it might be completely different to any other twin-charge setup & not really comparable. It's certainly a fascinating topic.
@irionmotorsports
@irionmotorsports 16 күн бұрын
@bo-dine7971 No, it actually opens pretty quick when I get after it. There's no AFC controls in the fuel pump and I've got large injectors. With all this fueling and the fact that there's no lag, the turbo spools quickly and overtakes the supercharger.

Yes, it will only draw as much amperage as it needs. Another way to look at it is the voltage is determined by the solar panels, but the amperage is determined by the anker and limited by the solar panels. Does that make sense?

I pay for the mid tier package, because I like to download offline maps for the area that I'm racing. I could work around it by hotspotting before the race and loading the map, but if something goes wrong I'm going to lose my map. I don't even need a gps for the races i'm doing now. I mostly use it so my co-driver an I are practiced up in case we ever get out to KOH. I think it's worth having if you're racing or off-roading in places that don't have cellular. There are plenty of other gps apps that you can use that have free, or cheaper off road maps, but I haven't found one that works with my Dual XGPS160 satellite receiver, and the ipad doesn't refresh fast enough for racing. You could always try it for a year and see how much you use it.

Yeah, it was the combination of the extra hp and weight. I was regularly exceeding 25k, sometimes as high as 30k. You could do that with a stock truck without issues, but when you add 200-300 hp it doesn't hold up. The np 205 is the toughest transfer case that ever came stock in a vehicle. I run one in my race car too, and I've never had a single issue with them.

I’m sure by now you have already made your oil pan, but my first thought was that you should do a dry sump oiling system.
@irionmotorsports
@irionmotorsports 7 ай бұрын
That's something that I considered, but there's not much of an advantage in this case and lots of downside. This motor puts out more hp than I need, so I don't need the little bit that I would gain from a dry sump. The weight difference would be negligible. The biggest downside is adding a number of high probability failure points to my car. I would have to a scavenge pump with a belt drive to the bottom of my motor where mud and rocks could get in. If that belt gets destroyed I'm done. There's also a whole bunch more hoses and fittings that can fail. The whole point of using a Cummins in the first place is the simplicity and durability. Also, I'm a cheap SOB.
