Favorite Conan quote is the poem he recites in one of the short stories. “I was a man before I was king.”

I'm loving the adventure thus far! The characters are great and Jason's dming rules! I got one question though, when the party got separated was there a reason why they couldn't use their Retinal Com Device's to send a text to FU and Shade's brain, or did the party just forget they had them? lol. Anyways, good shit!

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it. It's been so long, I honestly don't remember haha. I'm willing to bet they forgot, as well as me (Jason). That's pretty common when running a new ruleset for the first time. But thanks for pointing it out!

Great review, and very fair to the game. I admit a lot of the negatives you guys had don't really bother me much/I read them differently. On the topic of bidding lore, I read it more as "if it's likely a character would know something based on common sense or their motifs, just tell them and don't make them bid lore. If it's more niche or esoteric, that's when you bid lore to get info." Seems like a good way to avoid the constant "Make a History/Arcana/Religion check." On using Bonds for lots of things, I mostly agree, but I like overall that the system incentivizes roleplay. Lots of procedure-heavy games (I'm looking at you, Blades in the Dark) have amazing systems and flow of play, but all that machinery can get in the way of roleplay and character. His Majesty the Worm's Bond system is an attempt to remind players to constantly be acting in-character and engaging with each other. IDK how well it works in practice, as I haven't gotten this game to the table yet, but I like it in theory. All in all, a really good review guys!
@TheWeeklyScroll11 күн бұрын
Hey thanks! I really like bidding lore, I jsut don't see any good reason to put a limit on it. Feels a bit antithetical to the incentive he's going for with the bonds, potentially putting a stop on asking questions once your bids are up. Jsut like a lot of it though, I think we'd need to play to see. We appreciate the kind words and hearing someone engage with our thoughts!

I agree that's not the best organized book I've read, but the 5 is the same score you gave to Witehack 4E and WH is way way harder to read due structure. Both GREAT games anyways. Also I have to say that the tarot card play is awesome and I'd love more games with card mechanics.
@TheWeeklyScroll13 күн бұрын
You know what, you're completely right. I think the usability issue is compounded a bit by the size of the book, but it should probably have been a 6

Thanks for the review, guys. I’m missing a lot of thoughts about the actual game and how it’s played or meant to be played. This mostly feels like a review of the text-as-a-book and not the *game* that’s presented in the book. There’s of course a place for both but I would love to hear some more discussions and thoughts about the actual content in a future episode, since it’s really unique and thought provoking. Lots of things to steal, as you said yourselves!
@TheWeeklyScroll14 күн бұрын
I think we said it in the episode, but this definitely feels like a game that would sing once you're settled deep in. Unfortunately we don't have the time to make this THE game that we're playing. Josh talks a lot about their design decisions on their blog, which I linked in the description, so that might give more insight for you. Thanks for watching!

i dislike it when pretentious people (the reviewers) try to call other things pretentious. the commentary on the tagline being one of the most pretentious and absurd things i've ever heard in a review, and then you turn around and say the book is pretentious because it uses words outside your vocabulary lol. c'mon.
@Mekhami14 күн бұрын
also your inability to recognize that other perspectives exist makes your reviews really pointless. a lot of your commentary boils down to "we don't need this so who possibly could" - an obvious fallacy. you can review it that way if you want, but why would anybody else bother tuning in? let's be perfectly honest: i don't care if you like it. i care if i would like it, and the only value your video has is in giving me more context to decide if i would like it, but you've intentionally side stepped that value in favor of being pseudo critical.

On the Wounded Order, there are times when you might want to wound a talent before taking staggered. Orc talents generally hurt attackers and trigger when wounded, for example.
@TheWeeklyScroll14 күн бұрын
Ooo, that's interesting, thank you for pointing that out. I wonder then if it would be better to jsut give an order, but say in the orc talent they can choose Wounded before Staggered if they want. I think that lends to one of our points though, that this game would really shine once you're really settled into it and get all those little nuances.
