Sauron really seems to be a depiction of Lucifer whispering in someone's ear to do great evil with the promise of power, represented by Saruman. Even the name has an almost protégé sound to it like a cautionary tale.

It's an interesting decision, brilliant for the first movie However, Mr. Jackson shot a lot extra because he knew he was making epic sagas, however once that decision is made he did not shoot the 17 years. He gave us some cutaways and wound down post climax in the resolution for a healthy time, even long for some, not me but that was the criticism at the time. Criticism I never agreed with or thought was deserved. Mr. Jackson's decision was brilliant for what it was. Now that he chose that path I think it would be interesting to see some new shoots of that time as the books portray even more. I hope the entire saga is filmed as the books wrote it.
