My 75 year old starter wire gave up on my farmall m and it wouldn’t stop the starter becuase bare wire was touching metal and shaved the corner of my ring gear off and chipped my starter teeth but thankfully not to the point of needing I new one but I am putting a new starter wire and rebuilding the starter for safety.
@locustvalleyfarms7241Ай бұрын
@@Farminandfishin dang that’s crazy. Yea one tooth being gone doesn’t really matter. Mine was destroyed

@ mine is just missing all the corners of the ring gear but it still has plenty of teeth left to grab but it would be perfect if it wasn’t for that one wire touching metal

Very neat!! 142 and 143 were indeed the oldest operational buses in the state to my knowledge, I believe the oldest ones now would probably be the 2002 Blue Bird 3800s from Wood or Pendleton counties or some of the older All-American REs from Wood county. Hardy county still has at least one 3800 thats no newer than 2001, but I believe it is retired. If I am not mistaken, 87 and 146 were the last full size Blue Bird 3800s as well as the last buses they had with DT466Es, which is probably one reason that they were retired. The rest of Wood County's Blue Bird 3800s are shorties with the T444E.

Nice work. Looks like it's definitely time for a ring gear. Hopefully the starter's ok too. There's another channel called "Canadian Redneck" who has a few videos about splitting and working on these IH utility tractors. You might find them helpful.
@amossnowdaharleyman91792 ай бұрын
I use to work on old jeeps a lot. Per Jeep, anytime the transmission and transfer case is removed always install a new clutch and throw out bearing, No matter what the old one looks like. It's the labor involved that makes it prudent. You may be tempted to reverse the ring gear and reinstall. Don't.
@locustvalleyfarms72412 ай бұрын
@@amossnowdaharleyman9179 I already have the new ring gear on the flywheel. It looks like someone has already reversed this one because there are chew marks on the other side aswell. Putting in a new rear main aswell. The clutch on this tractor is expensive and it looks fine so it’s going back In.
