I used your method on a kids’ sweatshirt (50/50 cotton poly) in my front-loading washing machine (Whirlpool Duet Sport HT) and it worked perfectly for me, I’m so happy with the results. I boiled 4 cups of water with the salt, the dye, and the dishsoap all in one pot, and added it to the washing machine all at once before starting my “sanitary” cycle. Luckily, this particular model does not drain the basin before running. Thank you again!

Do you use fixative? How much per whole bottle of dye?

Guys please don’t just pour the dye on the fabric material in a front loader wash, I did this and it saturated in one spot and left a huge dark spot in the middle. I suggest figuring out a way to fill the front loader with water and the dye to get one even color. Or just do the classic bucket method.

Thank you for making this Video in how to do and Not putting the dye into the soap dispenser. Which sounds like a very bad idea. And from the sounds of your previous experience using the dye in the soap dispenser and it getting everywhere sounds like a nightmare. Thank you for showing this pretty good detailed information and instruction!

I just started my front loading machine after putting my dye in the drum…and heard it drain before any new water went into the machine. There goes all my dye! Not sure how to avoid that but will have to figure it out. I have a Whirlpool “load and go” machine.

It would be nice if you included instructions with the colour fixative as well, which you didn’t use. But thanks.

This did not work for me. Where I poured the dye on was darker than rest of fabric. It looks tie dye now. Very disappointed ☹️

Great video. I was also reluctant to put dye into the plastic dispenser on my machine as I was worried about staining the plastic. I have used Dylon in the past and the instructions for using Dylon dye are extremely simple and straightforward unlike the Rit dye instructions which are more long winded. Your demonstration mirrors the Dylon instructions which is much easier to follow. Sweet and simple.
