I'm 75. I was born and bred in Guernsey. I came to England in 1980. Since then Fountain St, has changed entirely. None of these shops existed that are shown here, except Pete's chippy. It looks like even Gabriel's clothes shop is gone! Still, it still is picturesque.

The birds were amazing. Always loved going there - mind you when we went there there wasn't a café that I can remember. I'm talking 50s!! Thanks Ross.

I wonder if you might mention George Torode's Guernsey Donkey books, which are resplendent with anecdotes on well-known Guernsey characters, and Guernsey history. Very entertaining!

I have discovered all these small roads, lanes and footpaths during several years, using a map you can find at the tourist information center for example. This is a nice place to swim… at low tide ! I have never had a drink at the café, it was always closed. I see it has been renewed and the Renoir cottage too.

Thanks for a delightful film again, we stayed in a hotel in that area many years ago. I think it was called Hougue fougue or something similar, it actually had the Renoir painting there, it was quite small I seem to remember. Thanks again for good memories. Diane

As a Guernseyman who's been living in England for 45 years, I enjoyed this video. I've seen a lot of changes in my visits there over the years. For instance, the first thing I always did of old when I visited was to have a delicious milkshake (or two, or three...) in the Guernsey Dairy, which was situated in the town by where Holland & Barrett are now.situated It's been closed for quite a few years now. I grew up in the island, and spent (or perhaps mis-spent) much of my youth in the Lyric snooker hall, which was run by a likeable old Londoner, Jim Dixon, and managed by another Londoner, Brian, and by a local guy named Danny.. In fact the Lyric was the meeting place for many colourful local characters. As was my local pub 'the Helmsman' in Pedvin Street (or was it Cornet Street?), run by the Help family, a great bunch. This too, has now been closed a number of years. If you go up the steps more or less opposite the fish market, you get to the Little Theatre, though I doubt if it's still there. I remember once playing piano there for a local group called Axis (under my proper name Mick Le Breton). Those were the hippie days, and the music then was really great. The local groups were good, too. There were, besides the very good Axis, a group called Ponders End, and then there were Humble Fred, and Spiggy Topes, Sam and Huck, The Westcoasters, Wally Le Page and the Vale Road Stompers, Us Limited, Johnny de Bougonniere, Phil Delahaye, and a number of others. I'm sure many of those musicians are still playing today. Many places have disappeared. For example Collins Sweet shop in the Pollet, where I used to work (staffed by some gorgeous girls, Janet, Rose, Pat, Mina, to name just a few!), There was also a rival sweet shop down at the bottom of the Pollet called 'Le Tissiers'. I remember one evening catching Rose, who worked for Collins, buying for herself a bag of boiled Guernsey sweets at Le Tissiers. She told me strictly that I was not to say anything about it at work - we both worked at Collins at that time! Now I've spilled the beans, Rose! But don't worry, I'm confident there will be no repercussions after all this time! Well, I've enjoyed reminiscing and could continue to do so for ages. But I'll sign off now and thank you for posting. God bless!

Great video again! I noticed the fuel prices at Landes du Marche. Is diesel really £1.69 pence a litre? I thought Guernsey had cheaper fuel but we pay £1.47 in my area of Scotland. 😮

Eggs . I have 4 hens so get my own eggs, if you don't wash eggs and store them pointy side down they will last 6 months, if you buy eggs from a store and they have a use by date of say 4 weeks, then those eggs are most probably 5 months old

Learned to drive in Sheffield. Steep slopes, narrow roads, double parking, blind bends. Clutch control was essential. Came over with own car, mindful of filters, had own parking clock. Not easy but doable. If you can pass your test in Sheffield, you can drive in Guernsey!
