Hi Joseph, As usual your videos are a great help to me as I find your instructions clear and concise. Much appreciated. I was following along without any problem until I attempted to pair my XT2 to my (old) Sena 10U communication device. Following the instructions in the Sena's manual for pairing , I do get it to a voice prompt for pairing; but when I then press the XT2 pairing, it responds "No headsets were found". Any assistance or thoughts you may have would be appreciated. Cheers from Canada.
@JosephByrne
@JosephByrne 16 күн бұрын
@@tr1umphrider That's strange. Maybe it doesn't recognise it as a headset. You could try pairing it from one side. I used to do that with old phones. Like have the headset search for the Zumo and follow the procedure on the headset only. Or try the opposite and follow on the Zumo side only. Maybe that will work. It's just a guess though.

I’m hooking up mine now, first installation was on my Silverwing with a cigarette lighter connection, but I now want to hard wire it to the battery of my TW200.. you’re saying that once the unit is removed from the cradle there is ZERO battery draw? I would expect the converter box to drain a bit just keeping itself alive…. thanks for a great vid!

Pretty much zero. I've not had any issues over the past few years. Purists from my motorcycle club wire it to a switched live or add an extra relay, but I've always hard wired.

Great idea, just done this with my XT2, works brilliantly... however... Has anyone found a workaround for the crappy onboard speaker? External speaker? Bluetooth? thoughts?...
@JosephByrne
@JosephByrne 4 ай бұрын
Bluetooth is your only option really. If you Bluetooth to your car you'll get the the instructions through your speakers but then you won't be able to play music. It's a shame the speaker isn't louder, my phone speaker is better. The Zumo 550 had a pretty decent speaker built into the cradle. I've got the Latest Zumo but I've not got it out of the box yet to test if it's louder.

@@JosephByrne totally agree. LM595 car mount had an external speaker with volume and sound being OK. The wifes Garmin Drivesmart 76 actually has good sound / mic performance. So Garmin CAN make this happen when they want to... I understand Garmin had to use a waterproof mylar speaker on the bike gps, and the tradeoff is sound quality. But i think we would all pay more for a powered base with a speaker and mic for dedicated car use? (they would prefer to sell us anohter gps for our car...) The requirements for the car kit are not that different to a helmet bluetooth. I have read that the car handsfree needs to use the correct handsfree protocol. It appears this is not that common? Could also be internet fud? I am about to go down the aliexpress rabit hole of cheap-arse car handsfree kits to see if i can get this premium XT2 GPS to do a basic requirement. No wonder BMW Motorrad dumped them Disapointed... again... Garmin.

I have NO idfea how you will ever get a GPS unit to work on Basecamp in MAC, it is 100% impossible to do. There is no direct USB C to mini printer USB cable that works. Using a USB C adapter to USB A will make it work in Garmin Express which is good for ??? I have still no idea. But it will not show up in basecamp. @@Helloverlord everyone I know used the audio. The battery will lose performance after about a year typically because it doesn't cycle properly as the device is almost permanently connected to power. Replacement batteries are cheap and effective. During the period I had the 590LM I rarely had software issues and I used it in the UK, Europe and the US. I miss having the option of wired audio which the XT doesn't have.

Your demo was exceptional. And London was great to see. But, what happens if after you do all this custom work, download to the device and headout on your ride and decide to go off route? Your last route was great for riding, but I noticed a few locations along the route that would have been fun to explore without loosing your way to the final destination based on your custom route. Also, I imagine you can create several different custom routes of the same begin n end point and store them accordingly. Finally, do you use a micro SD storage device? If so, do you have a demo on that? Thanks again, happy safe riding in UK..
@JosephByrne
@JosephByrne 11 ай бұрын
So if you go off route the device will keep harassing you to get back onto the route. The best thing to do in that case is to stop the route, then ride off piste for a bit then when you want to get back on the route again, relaunch it and choose, "closest point of entry," as the start point. Saving routes to the SD card is easy, it appears in Basecamp as a location you can save to. I normally save to the decice though. You can absolutely create multiple custom routes with the same start end end points in Basecamp. Then you can do useful things like join them together in Basecamp to create a new combined route.

Bit more useful test would be trying with it loose on concrete as this would be the most “ideal” situation that a theif would ever encounter. Obviously suspended in air even more difficult but flat on the ground would be the best possible for a theif so why not test that

Because it's dangerous. Our test was ok but their is a more skilled operator on KZbin who cut an Almax Series 5 on the floor in under 90 seconds. If you search you can find that. Before I start to watch, my experience with base camp is that it is really clunky for route planning. At present all I use it for is as an indeterminate step between Google route builder for beautifully simplistic route planning and exporting those files as KML. Then import into Base Camp and transfer to Garmin Sat Nav
