I knew there had to be some kind of problem with one or more of the jumps/leaps to get a number like that, even with the step out. Those cheated jumps seemed to be commonplace during this code of points unfortunately.

Wasn’t just Al and Armine in this scenrio. Every team had this problem.

Well that would have been the biggest joke in history, and is eternal proof what an overscored gymnast Carly is. Carly Olympic Champion on the UB, LOL, joke of the century.

Switch ring + split 1/1 was worth nothing in this code, nor was double turn + double straight. C + C dance on floor got nothing, while C + D dance got .2, it was so dumb. Also very dumb in this code is how the Double Cat leap + 1.5 cat leap constantly got D + C credit, despite the fact that nobody ever did the double cat leap properly. Still, since that's what the judges were allowing, every routine should have used it. There was one other hack in the code that most everyone should have been using, but nobody did: double turn + double jump landing in support on the floor (the Ziganshina) for a C + D combo.

@@Zuranthium OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!! I never realized the toe-shoot was a C skill (which kind of made the Ray stalder version irrelevant)….. I am seriously shocked and am having a paradigm shift…. After all these years and I would see routines during this code and see 10 SV and was always missing a tenth!!!! Was the toe-on shoot a “C” in the 97-00 code? YOU ARE SERIOUSLY A COOL PERSON!!!!!! Did you hear about Konnor McClain (she left WOGA and is in WA)…. Thank you again for breaking down that routine…. ALWAYS THOUGHT THE TOE-ON SHOOT WAS A “B” SKILL, LOL

@@Zuranthium - that's because alot of gymnasts were already doing a regular tuck jump double. You couldn't get credit for both in the same routine. For switching between the two, think it's debatable if it's an easier alternative to a regular- probably very dependent on the gymnast.

That's only 7 elements, the CV is wrong for both series, and she's never even trained that dismount as far as I know. Edit: You also forgot the 0.2 dismount bonus.

Seriously. Elfi should have known that Nastia was doing a forward-landing dismount to protect her injured ankle.

It really was but by Athens that didn’t matter anymore. Even Svetlana Khorkina wasn’t dancing the way she used to. It was all about executing those tumbling lines and dance elements while minimizing deductions, and with the difficulty of doing enough D level or higher elements and connections to make a base 8.8 move up to 10.00, we got very stiff and scared gymnastics.
