This episode piqued my interest because my family has been in shipping and shipping investment for 2 generations. However, your guest displayed the usual ignorance and parroted nonsense from the legacy media, thus I gave up quite soon after his own introduction. Let me give you 3 examples. He said the Russian “Dark/shadow” fleet is unregulated and unregistered. That is blatantly false. What that sinister termed coined by neo-libs simply means the fleet is not insured with Lloyds of London. Secondly, he couldn’t be more wrong about the $60 oil price cap. The cap means the Russian fleet can’t transport crude above $60 if they are insured with Lloyds. We all knew this was a joke and won’t work, some hair brain scheme of Janet Yellen. All it took was to have the fleet insured not by Lloyds and any EU country. Which was the case. To say they never lowered the price cap so the scheme didn’t work is simply drivel. Thirdly, he said Russia is struggling, he must be repeating all the nonsense in the legacy mainstream media. I was in Russia last September and it is doing very well. It is now the 4th largest economy by GDP according to the IMF. It is the only autarkic country in the world and estimates of 8% GDP growth. I gave up after all this codswallop. The problem is people in N America live in bubble and are fed propaganda daily.

Informative interview. And not once did ideology or politics enter his views. How refreshing.

Taking Russian oil off the market will spike oil prices, the opposite of Trump’s goal to reduce oil prices.

At what point do you consider admitting you might have been a bit too bearish on large cap tech in the past and become a bit more humble about them?

I'm waiting for the 2yr yield to go above the Fed Funds rate (>4.5%) and possibly price in a future hike. That's when I'll go long duration. No idea what the 10yr will be at that point - maybe 4.8%, maybe 5.5%.

Polierre has never had a job and a corporate bought career politician. His traitor Conservative Alberta base will not allow him to defend Canada. They infact seeks to destroy the Canadian federation and seek union with the United States. He should never be Prime Minister.

NDP under singh has done more damange to lower middle class than any other party in Canada in past. Singh is more interested in building Khalistan in Canada than protecting middle class.

The real estate “boomed”, because we could not find any other form of investment that kept our retirement savings in tact. RRSP/Mutual fund returns are compared to the official inflation, which is so contorted that it is probably half of the real inflation (so you are actually losing money in these funds). Even if you find a promising small business, the regulatory environment is so volatile and hostile that your can’t consider it as a long term investment.

Not sure election in 3 months. Carney will become leader and PM. NDP may continue to support Liberals or new PM can use emergency powers and delay election until 2026. Not definitely going to happen but a wild card possibility.

About that last part, if the gov comes out to assist home builders there should be people in the streets or this is a completely lost country. This is infuriating to keep bailing these risk takers whenever they lose a bet

Agree completely Kevin. I found JD's (Dirtnap) thoughts/comments on Canada being next ARG to be poorly timed and odd. Eventually CAD will be a great place to invest imho, but not yet. Too early = wrong. We will see.

The reason people keep asking Kevin to bring in "the real estate guy" is not because Ben is so great, but because drywall serfs in this country 🇨🇦 are addicted to real estate 😂 jk jk Great discussion guys!

the China debt is really interesting and showing the deep market division that completely cannot agree with each other. Both sides have a point, but I think odds wise it's a bit more likely that the market including Chinese market have overestimated the downside and underestimated the upside. However what really scares people is probably the tail risk in Chinese assets, although the tail risk have always been there since the Chinese market exist.
