Queen Anne feet. Not bun feet as is typical in William and Mary the drawer bottoms should have been hand cut on the outside bottom too rather than the circular machine cuts seen in 19th century pieces.

Is this rosewood or Mahogany please and also, what finish do you think they put on there? Would it just be varnish or shellac or would they use a stain? Thanks so much for this video. Sincerely, C. Adams

Note the dovetails proportions and also how the front of the drawer is beveled at the back.

Your chest has so-called "Quaker locks", which have been removed. If they were still there, they would lock the top drawers such that you would need to open the lower drawer, reach your hand in, put a finger through the hole, and push up on a slat (the lock) of wood. Then you could slide open the drawer.

North to south drawer bottoms swelled by width causing drawer to sick;more force contributed to fronts breaking away.

How can you say it's in original paint when it has a later coat of bright red paint? Have you seen the book on windsor chairs by Santore? It has wonderful examples of chairs with original paint.

Thanks for the demonstration and explanation! It never occurred to me that mineral oil could be used as a lamp fuel! I have an antique clock, similar to the one on the right.

William and Mary more than once and then at the end Queen Anne. Doesn't exactly create confidence in your narrative.

Bottle dates from the late 17th century to the first quarter of the 18th century. Also they used string, not wire to secure the cork. They have found 100s of these in shipwrecks so rum & gin was shipped in these. This bottle is a common form probably from the Dutch but may have been blown in northern Germany. English ones are rare and any with a glass seal are highly collectible.

I have two similar chests. The sides of the drawers are very thick and have large groves or tracks cut into them, which run on guides nailed to the side of the case. Your chest may be later than 1690 as it has the more modern drawer guides and runners.

I have a heart pine handkerchief table, but it only has three legs. There is no evidence that it had a swing leg. There are no nail holes or screw holes underneath to indicate that there was a fourth leg. Do you think it was simply propped up with some type of stick? It is a mystery to me. It's in beautiful shape, even though there are some worm holes on the table top.

Same with candles... Those who could afford them used what we now call a Hurricane Shade... A somewhat hourglass shaped cylinder to set around the lamp to keep wind from putting it out...
