I'm bleeding to high pressure pump here. To bleed properly I needed to bleed to injectors on starboard side. No wonder it did not start. Going well now it'd been bled properly.

Sound like low competition in one cylinder and air in the fuel lines. Make sure to prime up the filters and check lines for small pin holes on the suction side of the fuel lines for where air could get in

The two "flat" washers are for sealing the pumps infeed and outfeed pipes which are a "press fit". The seal with the incorporated spring should face forward .... There should not be an o ring outside that.

Hi having the same problems with my Md7a, checked impeller, and thermostat both ok, only replaced the thermostat and cooling manifold two years ago, so going to try and flush with brick cleaner, did you do this with the thermostat in place and how long did you run the cleaner through the engine for? Thanks

It is definitely do'able on one tide but I would probably depart the Medway via the main entrance rather than the Swale.

Hello Director Stu, can you tell me what you fixed / replaced to fix the rattling? New cam chain or new chain tensioner? Or both? Thanks!!
@directorstu2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Because I buggered the timing by pulling out the tensioner housing (not just the inner bit) I had to take it into the garage. They reset the timing, fitted a new bolt and chain. The guides seemed fine.

Sorry I cannot remember the weight. Also the epoxy-resins.co.uk site seems to be unavailable so I cannot check. 5cm woven cross pattern medium weight from memory.

hey @directorstu thanks for the mirror vids. I'm in the middle of restoring a gen 1 '72. I'm wondering what the red safety strap running along the center of the cockpit floor is for?
@directorstu2 жыл бұрын
You hook your feet under it so you can lean out to counterbalance the tipping force of the sail. The nice thing about Mirrors is you can start off gently in light winds, but as your confidence grows you can push them harder, lean out in stronger winds and really feel the boat come alive.

How are the cooling pipes attached to the pump (Threaded?)
@directorstu2 жыл бұрын
Not threaded. Push fit, with a rubber washer to help with the seal. These can be a bit fiddly to reassemble. It is old tech. But it does work!

Yes, the remarks about uncomfortable position are people that doesn't know much about boats or sailing. The more your position are in the center of a boat, the less you are prone to the "bouncing effect" of the boat's furthers points - sorry my English are not too good. Learned this from experienced fisherman over the years. If you prone to get seasick, sit in the middle of a boat.This should be a dynamic boat and thanks for sharing.
@directorstu2 жыл бұрын
This is very true in any boat. Having sailed this boat for several seasons I can confirm she is not more likely to make anyone seasick. Thanks.

Thanks for providing some crucial info! I'm replacing the thermostat on a MD7A. Every parts supplier sells a replacement kit that is supposed to work for both the Volvo Penta MD6A and the MD7A. Both motors take the same thermostat, but not the same o-rings / bushings. The MD6A thermostat housing is shaped sort of like home plate. It has two locations / holes for sealing rings / o-rings. The MD7A thermostat housing has an arm sticking off the bottom, with a third hole in it. This is shown at 2:29 of your video. The hole in that arm connects with the copper tube coming from the impeller pump at the back of the motor - we see that tube at 2:18 of your video, labeled "water comes out here". At 2:29 of the video we see an o-ring at the third hole in the arm of the housing. We get another good look at the housing at 4:38, and in that view the o-ring is not the third hole. If anyone can explain how that connection can be made watertight, I'll be so grateful. Dan
@directorstu2 жыл бұрын
The push fit tube connections can be a bit fiddly but do go back without too much hassle. A fresh rubber ring helps. I used gasket paste on the housing edges. Not too much.

Thanks alot for this video. Just bought an old sailboat with this engine knowing it has heating issues. I will give these a try first. Got the boat cheap due to this issue but am hellbent on getting it running. It sounds so great.
@directorstu2 жыл бұрын
Obviously I don't know the condition but they are pretty basic tech. Parts4engines do got parts at non volvo prices. I'm willing to bet its the heat exchanger. If brick cleaner doesn't sort it you might be playing the 'take it off without snapping a bolt' game. But even that isn't too difficult . Best of luck.anf let us know how you get on. S
@Nifilheimur2 жыл бұрын
@@directorstu yeah plan to service the engine and check the saildrive over, swap out impeller and then take a look at the heat exchanger and plumbing. Im pretty sure ill get it running smooth in the weekend. Cheers for the reply and have a good evening.
