My wife and I just came back from a resort in Punta Cana, where we attended a very similar presentation, and like you, we declined the deal. I don't believe value can be measured simply in money saved as compared to purchasing the same experience outside the membership. Effectively, the membership "locks" you into booking a certain kind of experience going forward, and we prefer all our options open for future. (e.g. sure, we could book at other networked resorts, but what if we want a different experience entirely next time?) Were you offered "a gift" at check-in? I wonder if the appropriate move is to simply decline the gift up front. (Normally, I'd be wary, but we were a bit weary from the travel that day., as most would be, and I think they know that when they ask)

I just came back from this resort and wondering what others are saying. The service is choppy but people are friendly . The decor and design of the property is beautiful and so disappointed when I saw poor Maintenence of the property. We too had broken hooks and broken tiles and broken doors in our room. The gardens could have looked better around the pool area. When you first come in, it’s.. impressive but the paint drippings and broken tiles drove me up the wall

Went there on vacation about 2-3 weeks after 9/11 happened. I remember there was an African display in the museum, Egyptian maybe. I definitely remember no photography was allowed. I recall Athena was all white, and learned it was gilded in 2002, about a year after we were there. We just got back from this resort and we absolutely loved it. Our experience was completely different. We had the Diamond Club upgrade with a butler. We had 2 specific butlers assigned to us - Edi and Enrique. They were awesome! We used What's App to contact them throughout the day and they would find us in person at least once a day to check in. They made all our dinner and spa reservations for us and got us just what we needed. We had cleaning each morning and turn down service every evening. We were in the Hideaway section. All the staff we walked by or met in the different areas were so kind and helpful. I do agree with the entertainment. It wasn't great, but the parties and vibe team made up for it.

I remember the early days of 'replay'. There was a degree of unfairness. If a 'fumble' called on the field was overturned to no fumble, it was corrected. BUT if a 'non-fumble' was called, but needed to be reversed, nothing could be done (since the play was blown dead before the recovery). The NFL changed that to a 'let it play out' policy. So even if the refs believed the player was down before the fumble. In doing this, the call could be reversed and the refs known who recovered it after all. In this play with the ref calling 'false start', the whistle never blew until after the Chiefs recovered the bad snap. Clearly, the refs, talking it out among themshelves, rule a 'illegal shift' happened because the ball was snapped before the player in motion had time to set. The refs allowed to this to play out, so they could make the right call. That's right, the RIGHT CALL!!
