Thanks for the experience. I was going to order this TEC one but I got one off ALIbaba express for half the cost and to be honest looks neater. Good you pointed out the manufacturers shortfalls, you’d think they would solve these issues prior to manufacture. And I’m with you on the symmetry. 👍🏻

@@chrro466 Yeah, in the UK our plate size, colour and even the size and shape of the letters are mandated. Of course, it’s possible to get smaller ones made, and lots of people do, but it’s a red flag for getting stopped by the police and I’m too old for that kind of shit these days. 🤣 That said, I do have a 6 digit number, which allows me to use standard height letters, but cut down on the size of the plate if I could be bothered, but it is not really anything I’m worried about.

@@knackeredrovers that’s a shame because it spoils the look of the rear end!! I probably over complicate most things, if I’m honest. I suppose the best way to explain my reasoning is that I wanted the phone squarely placed in the middle, for reasons mainly related to my own personal preference for symmetry and balance. If I were happy with it off to one side I’d have put it there, but I wasn’t, so I didn’t. 👍

@knackeredrovers
@knackeredrovers 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. 👍 The phone is an iPhone 15pro, which is supposedly waterproof to IP68, so should be tolerant of splashing or a few raindrops. If caught in a proper downpour I would stop and put the phone in a waterproof pocket. Likewise the USB port is tucked away at the side of the instrument housing and has a weatherproof bung, so it should be ok for splashes and showers, but in heavy rain I wouldn’t be using it. I am a leisure rider these days. If I rode year-round in all weathers, I would be looking at a different solution. Something like the BeelineMoto, but I can’t really justify the expense of one of those for the limited amount of riding that I do.

@calsurflance5598
@calsurflance5598 3 ай бұрын
@@jerryhoward7910 An axle differential lock , locks both wheels on the same axle On some land Rovers, a center differential is used instead of a transfer box. In that case, the front and rear drive shafts can be locked together much the same way a transfer box locks together when you select 4WD. However when you unlock a center differential, power is still sent to both axles, they just are not locked together and can turn at different speeds. Some Land Rovers; early Series 1s, some Discovery’s and some Defenders used a center diff that was not lockable. I know that may be confusing. Hope it helps.

Years ago , I had an engineless Motor Torpedo boat from WW2 (The 1120 horse power petrol Stirling admirals long gone ) I wanted to return it to servicable condition and got hold of two brand new crated BMC 5.1 engines . Careful research into what propellor size would give the 72 ft boat maximum useable power gave me 15 knots and the engines were fabulous . instant access all round , ease of servicing and quiet steady reassuring throb of the engines was very impressive . Always started first time and very economical .
@knackeredrovers
@knackeredrovers 10 ай бұрын
Yes, these engines found their way into lots of other things. Most end of life lorries donated their engines to keep canal boats, plant, tractors etc. going. This engine is destined for a Nuffield tractor. They do run really nicely, particularly in marine applications where they sit at constant revs for extended periods. They’re not brilliant in the hands of lead-footed delivery drivers in 9-ton lorries though, as they need to be driven extremely hard to make mediocre progress, which is why I have chosen to replace mine with a 150 bhp 5.9 litre Cummins.

200 engines used to be readily available and cheap, as literally thousands of Discovery Ones came to the end of their lives in the late nineties and noughties. Sadly, most of them are long gone now. Cylinder heads and vacuum pump drives are hard to find, but not necessarily expensive when you do. I have a couple of spare engines, and will probably rebuild one at some point before too much longer. The 300 is more awkward to fit in that you have to do something with the driver’s side engine mounting because they have that whole side of the engine arranged differently to all the earlier versions. Personally, I’d advise going the 200 route, with possibly a set of 300 manifolds, but it does depend hugely on your budget, skill level and a big chunk of luck with what’s available when you’re looking.
