@@Songtweaker Thanks for the reply. Oh yeah, forgot to mention (per your thumbnail), mine actually _is_ broken 😂 (maybe got dropped during shipping or something), getting some wild sounds out of it, but I'm waiting on a new one, it's bad enough that I can't play a note of music, but this one's giving me the _wrong_ notes, it IS super fun just overloading the thing patching the headphones to External Input and Velocity to Filter cutoff, it's like a spaceship landing 😂. So while waiting for the _not_ broken one, I bought a Model D, a Roland T8 beat machine, and a inexpensive little mixer just so I can run them together, I want to use the Poly D as my midi controller, but as yet, can't make it work, it _should_ just be Model D midi in, to Poly D midi out.... hmmm, nothing as yet, might be these dip switches on the back, I dunno, I'll figure it out. On the up-side, ordered a midi to mini cable, because unless I miss my guess, I _should_ be able to use Model D to contour the sounds out of the beat machine (which is a pretty cool synth in its own right), ultimately, as long as they'll send a new Poly D, the wait gives me time to work other stuff out. Today I went to guitar center and got, I think, the last 1/4" cables I'll need to go into the audio interface, also got a chord wheel, chord chart, and some key stickers, there's a big learning curve ahead, I have ADHD in spades, I can learn fast, but have to try and minimize frustration to make it work. The _passion_ is there, and that's usually all that's required to achieve a modicum of success. I mean, I'm 62 years old, I'm not under any illusions of _how_ successful I'll be, but I'd like at least get to a point where I can blow an evening away making a midi, and tweaking the sound all night, I just want the notes to make a bit of musical sense.... 😁 Took me far too long to get here, but I may have finally found the thing I'm _most_ passionate about, better late than never, I'm kicking myself for never touching that three keyboard Thomas organ I grew up with in the living room, 15 year old me just couldn't get very excited about the "Foxtrot"(et al) tab[s] though. Of course, 62 year old me would have a very different attitude, hindsight being 20/20 and all. This said, it took me all of a month to become a total synth head, usually I worry about the ADHD - unfinished projects, of which I have a million, I don't think this one will go unfinished, but the well wishes are absolutely appreciated!

@@Lux7355 I actually did have issues with mine too. There were certain functions that did not work (I can't remember specifics since I haven't touched it in over a year), but that's the one downside with buying "cheap" synths like these. Seems like their quality can be iffy in some circumstances. Hopefully you're able to make everything work, it is a joy when it does! I was also looking into the roland T8 a while back, but ended up getting the Arturia drumbrute. What are your thoughts on the T8? The drumbrute is fun and all, but it's not very versatile and has a very distinct sound.
@Lux7355
@Lux7355 23 күн бұрын
@@Songtweaker My thoughts exactly on the cheapness, you get what you pay for, it wasn't entirely unexpected tbh. Still, given I spent less on the entire setup than one pricey synth would cost me, I'm ecstatic. Got it going, holy cow, seven oscillators sound incredible. Glad I got the Model D, they're very different, it's got way more buzz, I kinda like the Model D better, but it may just be that it works. So I can narrow Poly D's issue down, the keyboard works using it as a midi controller. Liking the T8 so far, be cool if can extend it even further with the Model D, gonna take some time to do anything useful with them, I have made some awesome sounds, if I could play it'd be better, going to just throw myself into it with reckless abandon lol. Gotta figure out how to make some money along the way, cause I'm *_gonna_* be wanting more toys, apparently my new hobby is expensive 😁.

I don't unfortunately. The poly d is nice with the extra built in features but at the expense of presets. For me, I'm fine with having no presets on this synth as my virtual synths are able to hold presets already. This is more for the hands on sound design side of production.

They did not lie, they just adopted the concept of Korg Mono Poly. As you might know they also cloned Mono Poly which has pretty close specs compared to the Poly D. And I should admit that it is a good idea.

I recently bought a microkorg s from my friend and found it a bit disappointing that you can only play 4 notes at the same time on the polyphonic patches. But I'm slowly getting used to it and it does force you to work with either the 4 notes maximum or 1 note at a time for mono or single patches. But I have a Yamaha e443 which I've had for a few years now that I can play if I want to use more than 4 notes at a time, and of course it has a very good grand piano patch and other great musical instrument patches. The microkorg would be better if it had a bunch of switches and knobs for changing stuff, but I will get used to the way you create and adjust patches eventually.

Depending on the synth, there are even more settings to adjust before you hear a sound, like the source / trigger (set to keyboard), the amount of the filter envelope and the filter sustain level.

Oh my friend, welcome to the world of synthesizers. You say that it is a negative point that it is paraphonic and not polyphonic, but for me it is better to play a different waveform for each note. The poly D has a 4-note polyphonic sequencer, you can play 4 notes with a single oscillator, but if sequencer you can't do that. Polyphony is that 2 notes can be played simultaneously (a minimum polyphony). Poly D gives you 4 notes to play chords with the same waveform as Prophet, Jupiter, Juno, but in the case of Poly D with 4 real VCOS and you can play them with different shapes equally, but the sequencer is 4 polyphonic notes and can sequence chords for one VCO. Polyphonic mode allows you to use 1 oscillator on one note, if you play 2 the first two sound if you play 4 notes all 4 at the same time, with 3 oscillators 1,2 and 3, and you can make each note have a different waveform , the sequencer is polyphonic with 4 notes That can't be done on a prophet 5 or a moog voyager or later 37, nor the plugins that emulate them, moog matriarch does the same thing but costs you 2000 bucks and behringer monopoly is the other one that makes those cool sounds, but the moog, for example, cannot sound with an oscillator on each note, because it only has 3 oscillators for 8 voices of polyphony, due to the result of making the same sound and waveform 8 times without separating or individualizing the oscillators for each note. Ok, I sum up the power of this synth in a few words. Moog D model = 1 note max. realtime, 3 oscillators, no analog effects, no extras, no polyphonic aftertouch, no switches to calibrate each zone or synth part or change the behavior of filters and envelopes. Behringer Poly D = 4 oscillators, 4 note realtime, 32-step 4 note polyphonic sequencer, 4 note polyphonic arpeggiator, Juno 60 chorus and analog FX layout, V-trigger, pitch, velocity and aftertouch outputs, switchable low-pass/high-pass filter. rear panel with switches to calibrate or change synth behaviors. Poly D is a mix of Minimoog and Korg monopoly in a box with sequencer keys and aftertouch, that's all.
