I'm from California and moved to Indy to start a family and own a house. Got the family started, but still working on the house. Neither would be possible in San Diego. Let's not forget about gas prices. I would spend about 3 hours a day driving. That equates to about a month and a half of my year driving... with gas over $5 gallon. All the taxes and idiotic laws have ruined the great state. The smart ones have moved away.

@@geesamanhomes sweetheart I've lived in Indiana for more than 60 years. I've paid property taxes longer than you have been alive. I'm completely aware of which counties have the highest property taxes and Carmel is in the middle of an expensive county. Great schools and roads, high taxes too.
@geesamanhomes
@geesamanhomes 2 күн бұрын
It doesn’t matter the value of the home, it’s still 1% of the assessed value of the home. Does Carmel have higher assessed property values compared to other Indiana cities? Clearly, yes. But the percentage of property taxes paid does not change. It’s 1%, just like the rest of the area.

I was born in Noblesville and some of my family still lives there. My Grandpa had a Barber shop there and my Dad was born and raised there who retired as Captain of the Noblesville Fire Department! I love the town and I watched it grow from when it was a town and now it is a city! My Dad could drive around and tell you everything about the history, he appeared on the local television station with the former mayor Rowland and he answered questions about the history of Noblesville. He also owned a plumbing company many years ago! I unfortunately live in Arizona and can’t wait to move back home.

The population of Indiana is almost the same as the Dallas or DFW, wow !We left Dallas because it was too crowded and way too hot. We are in Clarksville Indiana right now because my husband's family is nearby. I am wanting a small town with less crowds with normal shopping areas. Our rent in Irving/ Dallas was $1150 for a 2 bedroom {2020} but it went up to $1550 at the end of 2023 that is why we came back to Indiana. I like the colder weather but I am from Washington state where it is freezing all the time. I have had a hard time with the lack of sunshine this year. when we lived in Dallas the overnight lows were 77 to 82 degrees . we had to run our ac over night. My husband and I enjoy morning and evening walks in the summer months that are possible living in Indiana. we couldn't walk in Dallas because of the heat and high humidity.

Prof Evan McKenzie said in his seminal book, Privatopia (1964), "CIDS [HOAs] currently engage in many activities that would be prohibited if they were viewed by the courts as the equivalent of local governments." They are not subject to constitutional protections that non-HOA owners retain!

Great video with a lot of truth in it. I've lived in MA, WA, FL, NM, IL, IA, and IN. They all have good and bad qualities. Being a blue dot here in Trumpiana, I keep my mouth shut and realize my vote means nothing here, but the people don't talk politics and are 99% super friendly and salt of the earth. We're all Americans, after all. I love the peace and quiet of rural life, but not the constant maintenance costs of an older home. Thanks for sharing your excellent info.

I'm a native Hoosier, IU grad and LA resident for 3 decades. Before the pandemic, I had designs to move to back to Bloomington but the unemployment rate there is over 7% and one-quarter of its residents live at or below the poverty level. If you're poor, it is better to live in CA than LA. More financial resources here and it's a pro-tenant state. In November, state-wide rent control will be on the ballot.

Even though Indy is experiencing housing price increases, by comparison with other large cities, it is still much more affordable compared to cities like Boston, San Francisco, or Chicago. All things being equal, the cost of living here is lower than many other places.

She's right and fair. Euphemizing some stuff. Glad you mentioned the politics. It's mild mannered here, though. Nobody's in your face, but if you ask, you're gonna hear things that make you wonder if it's still the 50's. Stuff people complain about: Worst-of-all-worlds weather; suburban complacency; aspiring-to-basic attitudes; cliquish, intolerant small towns; lack of advancement opportunity and low wages if you don't live in Indy; housing prices getting ridiculous; medical, artistic, and intellectual underdevelopment; boring, more boring, and cornfields; long drive to "civilization"; expanding "Two Americas" dynamic, some towns made up entirely of churches, bars, and Dollar Generals... Stuff people like: Generally decent people who go out of their way to help someone in need (and WILL let you in in traffic!); relatively low violent crime; prices still slightly below national average; never "too crazy"; active small-town sports culture; an Applebee's within driving distance of every town, Olive Garden for special occasions... Yeah, you could do worse, but you definitely could do better. You live a small life here. Most people move away after college and move back when they have kids. They're still bored and stifled here, but at least their kids don't get shot at on the daily (unless you're in Indy). Indiana is where you go to "settle down"--when your dreams have died.

Good morning, Seen from France where we are world champions with 60,000 roundabouts, reporting them as an inconvenience seems lunatic to me. It's so much more convenient than waiting at traffic lights, and it's so much less dangerous. You can run a fire, not a roundabout, otherwise you end up on the grass, not in another car. Otherwise the city seems quite nice compared to the usual horrors that we see in the USA. The marked seasons, the very green environment, the facilities for pedestrians and cyclists. It must be good to live there as they say in France. Greetings from the French Riviera as you call our Côte d'Azur.
@geesamanhomes
@geesamanhomes Ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and your comments! As far as roundabouts go, in Europe they are probably safer than here in the USA. The problem here is there are some people that don’t know how to navigate roundabouts properly, and cause traffic slowdowns and accidents on a daily basis. But I assume that should get better the more people get used to them.

Best of luck!! Remember to be patient, as there will always be things that either go wrong or you decide you want changed when building a home (no matter if it's a production home vs. custom home). The key is addressing it as soon as you notice it, as depending on the issue if you wait too late it may cost a lot more money and time to fix it.
