I thoroughly enjoyed your touching narrative of this little Furry Forest Cutie that you and your family rescued..... Setting an adolescent squirrel such as Funny Man free without any additional support would have greatly decreased his chances for survival in the wild..... Young squirrels learn Squirrel Stuff from their mothers.... By maintaining contact with him (and supplying vital nutrition) after letting him loose, it gave him time to acclimate to making his own way in the wild.... Any chance of giving us an update ?

If the squirrel is too comfortable with humans, it will be very dangerous for the animal if you try to release it. Mine climbed up my neighbor's leg. I had to alienate the squirrel to get him to stay with his own kind in the oak trees. They are entertaining pets that wrestle with your hand and will sleep on your pillow, but they're also EXTREMELY active and they are constantly pooping when walking around the house. He could crack open a walnut in seconds but he never bit except in a very soft and playful way, like a good puppy. I got mine in early summer and he was free to come and go until he finally left for good in early fall. Mine was a Fox squirrel. It was an amazing experience with nature I will never forget.

I hope Funny Man is still around, when I was a kid we raised a baby squirrel but she stayed with us her whole life, she lived about 9-10 years, we called her MO, they like many of God's creatures have a spirit, so to hear him say that, touched my heart, this video reinforces my faith in humanity.

By now that young performer is 14 yrs. old. You can see him on KZbin playing the sax (his dad introduces him). How blessed you are, Sean, to have such a dad & teacher & friend. God bless you both!

This is awesome!❤ My husband and I had a similar experience with two abandoned babies a boy and a girl. The girl always came back for her walnuts at our back door, she’d look in when she wanted some and jump on the glass .She’d watch for our car to come in the driveway then wait at the door.♥️♥️Thanks for sharing and your kindness to the wild ones.

Squirrels are smart enough to know when they are better off. Raised in a caring home they can enjoy having endless room to roam, but they are not aware that the wild is a dangerous place. Are we imposing our own views on them when we assume that they should live in the wild? In nature, squirrels live about 2 years. In captivity, 10 to 20 years.

Después de ver los videos de tus padres entiendo perfectamente el talento heredado. Esos principios y valores q se plasman en el somido de un violin y que ahora Doug traslada en cada uno de los conciertos q ofrece.

What a wonderful heartfelt tribute to your mother. I just recently learned who she was, when I stumbled upon the Road Runner song, and then watched the KZbin video of you both performing that song. It was truly a gift. I just got done watching your video, and I am absolutely taken back by the awesomeness of it all. May your mother rest in peace, and may you have peace in knowing that she is in heaven. Thank you for sharing your life.

Hey Doug, just saying hi from the past. I knew you at UB in the ‘70s and was a one of your lucky friends who got to see you on stage with the late great Gregg Allman for the legendary “acoustic science” assembly at Canisius High School. Great to see that you are still playing! I just came across a recording of that whole concert, listened to it for the first time in almost 50 years, and thought I would reach out to say hi (and thanks!)

You released him in the best way possible, a little at a time with helping hands, food, and leaving his cage there for him. Wild animals should be free. Look at him, just flying around those trees! He truly has the best of both worlds. Wonderful, sweet story!
