As a guitar player new to a ukulele I am puzzled by your calling the D,G,B,E, strings of a guitar as the “bottom strings” A minute or so later you also refer to the E and A strings of a guitar as the “top strings” In the years I’ve played guitar no one I can think of has ever referred to them as the top strings. The first string is the “top” string and the sixth, two octaves lower, is the “bottom“ string precisely because of the pitch. Is that because re-entrant tuning forbids you to refer to the fourth string as a “bottom string”? Are you, as it were, using, “uke speak”?

@@marcushaliwell7340 as a guitar player that converted to ukulele also, i know what you mean and I don't really have an answer, it is possibly connected to re-entrant tuning but also I always think for beginners referring to the strings furthest away as bottom is the easiest way to understand

I had a hard time believing that bamboo would make a good tone "wood" (bamboo is a grass, not a wood). I guess I've been proved right. This ukulele is cheap compared to the Martin one at half the price. The Martin has nasty HPL back and sides (HPL is similar to Formica). Personally I think bamboo looks ugly compared to real wood but that's me. Bamboo grows like a weed so I guess there's plenty of it but seeing that it's abundant and cheap, it's not like you need experts picking out the best pieces and aging them for years, why are they charging so much?

I do like the look of the bamboo but at this price point I think there are better options. I've actually seen some well reviewed ukuleles made from Formica in the past.

Many thanks for this excellent and awesome lesson. I learned some wonderful techniques from this tutorial that I have added to my 12 Bar Blues toolbox like the basic shuffle and the more advanced variations of it. I am now incorporating your instruction into my daily practice. You earned my respect and my subscription to your channel. Looking forward to catching up with all of your past material as well as the new.

Gosh. I'm so excited! I have a wonderful old uke that I've always wanted to play, but I have nerve damage in my left hand. Still a challenge, as I have no ability to press down with uniform pressure using anything other than my thumb, but you've given me something fun to strive for! Thanks so much for this!

Interesting, but then you don't have nails on either hand, and there are times that I want to be able to do finger picking and there's no way to do that kind of strum technique (bi-directionally) with fingernails, and just using the fleshy part of the fingertips. Maybe I have to give up on keeping some nail length on the right hand, but... I don't know! Aaaaaa!

Here is a tip. Use low G to play blues on ukulele. You need to use the low G to really play blues solos on the ukulele. Also need to know double stops, bending the strings and hammer on and pull offs.

Is muting on the fretboard an entirely different technique than hammer on & off?
@UkuleleGo
@UkuleleGo 4 ай бұрын
It is, hammer ons and pull offs are there to get you extra notes without having to pick. Fretboard muting blocks notes out.

What do the different scales MEASURE? It's impossible to compare scale length if one owns just one.
