Thanks for sharing and educating us! Do you know if it is possible i could buy an old NASCAR or Bush car for both street and track driving? Adding the head and rear lights, windshield wipers etc to be in compliant. Is it possible?

I have a late model race car prepped to road course spec. My fire bottle is mounted below my legs and looks older, but is well in the green. Think it’s worth replacing? It’s a manual discharge bottle
@stockcarsurplus
@stockcarsurplus 9 күн бұрын
Great question James ! First thing I would do is check the date of manufacture and SFI date on it, if it's older than 5 years I would definitely replace. The fire retardant chemicals inside can break down and become ineffective over time.

We forever thank you for spending you time sharing your knowledge. Well we've seen toyotas put together. And that's cool. So I'm voting for the gen 6 Hendrick car. For whatever your going to do to that race car. Please. Question: what is the shelf life of a goodyear eagle race tire (new and one with say 2-3 laps on it) if kept in a climate controlled room before its timed out and should be thrown away? Thanks.
@stockcarsurplus
@stockcarsurplus 9 күн бұрын
Thanks for the input! I've had a few ask for the Hendrick car! Age depends on care, I keep them climate controlled and out of UV light for storage and have seen no degradation on tires 5 years old. After that they begin to mold check and separate.

I have a non- split tank that came with an orange heating pad that barely heats up the oil so Ive been looking for a different solution. After watching this video I bought a 'lot' of used heating bands from ebay in a variety of wattage range's from 600, 1200, 1850 and did some bench testing to check the heat range from low to high using a DIY control box that uses a house dimmer switch to control the power (it came with the car). I then tried it on the tank and came up with a variety of results and and even more questions. So I have a million questions but Ill just stick with these two. Coming purely from a safety stand point, how do you decide on wattage, and is using two bands a bad idea?
@stockcarsurplus
@stockcarsurplus Ай бұрын
Two bands are fine. Using an internal heating probe is more efficient, it heats the oil directly rater than the aluminum tank first.

What kind of gauge are you using to find the camber on the rear, and where could I get one? My housing doesn’t have any numbers on the inside, just “LR3” stamped on one side and “LR5” stamped on the other side. Both stamping are on the outside of the housing on beside the pumpkin.

Thanks Danny- In my opinion, there are certainly times for shorter videos, and times for longer videos. This one is perfect. We don't need to watch every rivet be installed on a window/duct, but a nice explanation of the thoughts and process, and the basic install like you did was nice. For things where there is more show and tell, and explanations needed like the last video about the brakes and some of the set up stuff was spot on being longer. I would expect the upcoming wiring project would be a longer one, which would be great. I enjoy them all. 👍👍

The detail you go into is perfect. If the subject takes 20 minutes to explain like this then it's a short video. If it takes 60 minutes to explain like brakes it's a long video. I've enjoyed following this series and can't wait to see the finished car.
