Thank you for the technical detail on what I rather naively thought was a fixed rear end. I had no idea that camber would be welded into the housing. I'm not that familiar with the history of oval track racing but what you have provided gives me a greater appreciation of the ingenuity in car set up to make these things turn left.

Thanks for the videos. Your attention to detail is phenomenal. I have been around dirt race cars and MX bikes most of my 64 years. I am amazed at the detail in these ford 9” housings used in nascar asphalt racing. I am currently finishing up a brand new USRA hobby stock car. Always learning.

I really like seeing how things have improved! I was on several Busch north cars it's cool to see how much my life would have been better in 95-2001! I know it's over kill for the street but I'm thinking of using housing setup like this. But a super speedway one I think for the street and drag racing. Your videos are awesome.

Excellent video. Question about how the camber and toe is set into the axle. Is it how the hub, threads on to the end of the housing because it looked like they were angled right at that point. Or is it in the torque tube itself by doing what was done on the older vintage race cars I used to restore. Where they would do what's called, "Gronking" the tube itself. Again excellent video. Very informative.

Camber is set multiple ways, in this housing it's how the hub snout is welded into the axle tube.

Thanks for taking the mystery out of this task, looks very doable for a diy'er especially with correct information shared. One question though, when installing the truck arms on the front mounts out of the three holes you choose the middle, is this be best road course duty? Thanks.
@stockcarsurplus
@stockcarsurplus Жыл бұрын
You're welcome! Glad you enjoy the content! I set them in the middle as a base setting, I won't know which of the 3 mounting holes I will use until the car is complete with the correct springs in it. Once it is and I have it on set up stands I can make adjustments to it and set the pinion angle. For now it's just a base setting.

What kind of gauge are you using to find the camber on the rear, and where could I get one? My housing doesn’t have any numbers on the inside, just “LR3” stamped on one side and “LR5” stamped on the other side. Both stamping are on the outside of the housing on beside the pumpkin.

Why did you chose a front mounted spring as appose to a rear; can you explain the benefits for a R/C application if there is any?
@stockcarsurplus
@stockcarsurplus Жыл бұрын
Great Question! NASCAR standardized the rules, and the spring has been mounted in the "stock" truck arm location in front of the rear axle housing since the 80's. Secondly, there's no room behind the housing for the spring to mount since the downsizing of the chassis to 110" wheelbase in 1981.

Danny does the rear track bars have to be set at a certain degree?
@stockcarsurplus

Great Question Harold ! Typically, in a Road race application it's set level. Being set with angle in it helps turn the car in circle track applications.

I'm surprised to see you paint your housing as opposed to powder coating it. I know that there is a big cost difference but the powder coating is far more durable.
@stockcarsurplus
@stockcarsurplus Жыл бұрын
Personally, I prefer paint over powder. It's easier to touch up if needed, and powder can hide stress fracture.
