You've lived in Japan before and can read, huh? 0 is set in 1988, so the atmosphere is quite different from now. I love the way you get drawn into the story so quickly that you stop playing to explain things, or swing your bike around and take down enemies with joy. I laughed when I saw you get angry after being told in Japanese that your feet stink lol. Incidentally, the scary trio of executives at the Tojo Clan headquarters are real Japanese actors

The more literal translation of Axel’s catchphrase is “Commit it to memory”, so he’s saying it like an instruction, but it being translated into a rhetorical question but still getting used the same way in sentences is so Kingdom Hearts

I'm so happy you're continuing this series 😭Trust me the plot gets real thicc and real juicy. Yakuza is one of those games that looks like it's for the boys but real ones know it's a soap opera for the fems and thems. Also buff men. Many many buff men. I love that you make Kiryu sound so cool but in my mind he's just kinda a dumbass especially in this game🤣 . Also places you can enter are colored on the map, although some places you can't go in at certain points of the story (You can tell when the music gets serious). You can always buy healing items at popo conviencence stores and any pharmacies. Check the map from the menu if you get lost and enjoy!

The analysis about the three lieutenants is really interesting and worth noting that those same three had face capture technology on their voice actors due to their fame in Japan as actors in yakuza movies! There's actually a few more down the line if I remember right in just 0! Also for rankings, it's typically Chairman (the head honcho of multiple yakuza groups) > Patriarchs (like the mafia dons of a family) > Captains (right-hand man) > Lieutenants > Sergeants > everyone lower like Kiryu p.s. bikes are the best weapons to grab in a fight in these games

Near the end of this video (y’boy is too basic for timestamps) Sora: What are you guys gonna do? Goofy: Gawrsh do ya really gotta ask Well since Sora has been conked out for a year and doesn’t remember COM that means that for him they abandoned him at hollow bastion like… a week ago. So yes Goofy, he has to ask 🤬

41:10 bruh. Kingdom hearts is both Disney and FF. That’s what makes it special. Any heavy focus to one or the other or god forbid cutting one side out entirely would ruin the series.

I'm loving watching you play this game, and all your insights into the language and culture, the choices in tone and word choices, etc. Just a couple tips: *1)* Don't forget to use your Heat moves! As you dish out damage, your Heat gauge will build. When Kiryu starts looking like he's glowing or on fire, you can often hit Y to do a special move. You can usually do this when you're standing over an enemy who is knocked down, when you're holding a weapon or object, when you're grappling an enemy, or when you and the enemy are close to a wall (I forget if you need to grapple them for the wall smash attack). Take advantage of these powerful moves often, as you're just wasting it if it goes unused. Also, getting hit depletes your Heat gauge, so it's better to use it than to lose it! *2)* You were correct to notice that the coloured buildings on the mini-map are ones you can enter. I think the yellow ones are stores, the orange ones are restaurants, and the purple ones are for activities like that billiards hall you found. Not sure why you couldn't enter some of them, but I'm pretty sure it's just because it's so early in the game. Progress the main story a bit more and I'm sure they will become accessible.

Real quick on the finger thing: Back in the olden days of the samurai, criminals were tattoed and are forced cut off their pinky fingers. The finger removal is so that they are unable to wield a sword on their dominant hand. And the tattoing of their bodies was made to identify what crime they have done. The tattoing was latered used by Yakuza as a means to show their loyalty to the life. The more complex the Irezumi, the more in the crime life they are.
@0Fyrebrand0
@0Fyrebrand0 14 сағат бұрын
Interesting, I didn't realize the origins went back that far. I guess the yakuza appropriated the tattoos as a mark of pride. I believe any kind of tattoo is still considered taboo by the rest of modern Japanese society.

Incredibly happy that you're continuing! Definitely don't feel pressured (no matter how ravenous we Yakuza fans can be lol) to rush through. These games can be HUGE depending on how much you plan on doing, so the last thing I'd want is for you to get burned out. Looking forward to your continued insight along your Yakuza journey! Just as a heads-up: There's a rare but still possible bug with the save system. If you save the game, make SURE that you see the "game saved" text. If not, the next time you open your inventory, it'll corrupt it. If you save again after it's corrupted, it's bad news. Thankfully this can be fixed by just saving until you get the text that the game was saved. Then you're all good. And as a tip, I recommend seeking out Utsunomiya Bob at the shrine in Kamurocho. You'll, uh, know him when you see him lol.

Kiryu canonically doesn’t kill. All the stuff in gameplay can be considered non canon as despite doing things that WOULD kill in real life, the enemies just get back up at the end of battle and are just slightly beat up.

That's a mistranslation. He doesn't kill unless he has to. He doesn't murder. He has killed many times in self-defense when there is no other choice.
@masteroflight7296
@masteroflight7296 12 сағат бұрын
@@thembill8246 point is despite what it looks like, random thugs don’t die as they just get back up after battle and Kiryu has never murdered before. Kiryu has never and will never murder someone, even the most evil people he’s come across he refuses to kill them. We also got to keep in mind what’s canon and what’s purely don’t for spectacle. Kiwami 2 even retconned a kill. In original “Man in Black” gets run over by a truck and never returns but in Kiwami 2 he has a new fight before the final boss just to show that he survived. That being said, People HAVE died because of Kiryu’s actions but he’s far from a killer. Just like you said unless there’s no other choice and he will try his damn hardest to not let that happen. We have never seen Kiryu kill in cold blood as a way of revenge or as a of justice. characters even acknowledge that he doesn’t kill. The only times we actually see people die from him is during the over the top action gameplay sequences, never in cutscenes.

This provably untrue thing constantly parrotted by yakuza fans is so irritating. Even in Y5 where the misconception comes from someone says that to kiryu, his response is along the lines of, "who told you that?"

@@masteroflight7296 that's correct. He's still a killer though, in that literally he has directly and indirectly caused human death. It's just that (under normal/ideal circumstances, and ignoring the part of him being Yakuza) it's the kind that he'd probably not be prosecuted for 😂

It’s so crazy how much we have in common like you are my peer. I’m 31 and I love video games. I know you recently got into video games but video games are my number one growing up (still are) aside from gaming, I was heavily into collecting Pokémon cards and Yu-Gi-Oh! (still am). It’s also really crazy to find out that you have an allergy to gluten, mine is more of an intolerance. I also went to a gastrologist and found out that I have an intolerance to it, but before that I went to an allergist and got a whole panel of blood test done that pinpointed what I should avoid completely, and I was shocked that I was allergic to gluten. Don’t know if it occurred after I got sick with Covid or if it’s been with me my entire life and just never paid attention to it until it got really, really bad but I also know that you do become intolerant or become allergic to certain foods the older you get. You’re not always born with it. It can occur throughout your lifespan, which is also insane. I’ve been binging so much just so I can watch you Live on KH2. Almost there!

After having restarted playing Yakuza 0 after having it backlogged for years, your first playthrough vid popped up for me since I'd been searching for tips on some minigames recently, and I'm so happy to have discovered your channel! Your insight with the language and culture are incredibly interesting and fun to hear about, as while it's clear that Sega's done a great job localizing these games, there's some concepts and things that can't be easily translated or conveyed. I loved hearing the translation that one of goons' lines about Kiryu's feet stinking! 🤣I appreciate hearing about when the speech level of formality changes, since I struggle to hear/recognize it outside of extremely rude or extremely polite speaking. It's incredible how in sync you are with Kiryu, too! 😄
