Quick question- are you removing both sides of the plastic bearing shields or just one? Awesome video by the way, I’m sure I will watch it 1,000 times or more when it comes time to rebuild my DR.😂 Also, are you cleaning out the grease they come packed with?
@docteurmoteur4 күн бұрын
Haha, thanks for watching. Remove one seal only. For the grease, it's hard to remove all of it. I don't bother changing it as engine oil will flush it away, however you can decide to wipe the accessible grease off the surface of the bearing and adding some bearing specific grease. Use heat and cold when installing the bearings. Bearings in the freezer one hour before installation, and heat the bearing hole a good minute before dropping it in. Make sure to drop them in flush, especially the OEM bearing with the pin.

@@docteurmoteur I've got a 1996 DR650SE myself as well as a '07 GSXR 750 for track days so quite a similar set of bikes to you. My DR650 is currently in bits having the frame re-powder coated. I've watched all your videos so far and I must admit that the things i keep wondering about that would be great to know are: a. What happened to his DR650 engine that required it to be rebuilt? b. Will he be rebuilding/restoring the rest of his DR650? e.g. Carb, frame, suspension, building new wheels, etc c. Who is this guy and what is the rest of his channel going to be about? Love the idea of seeing you do other engines but equally it would be great to see more on your DR650 if they are of the quality you've been doing so far... 🙂
@leoetgarou6 күн бұрын
@@OVB_NL Gsxr 750 is one sweet ride😉 My dr650 is an 01’ model; the carb and air box are stock and I don’t plan on “upgrading” that aspect of things. I have custom TFX suspension (front & rear). I’m tearing down the engine to install a NOVA gearbox. As to what’s next on the channel; I’ll only be rebuilding engines. Mainly super sport engines; think Yamaha r6 or r1. However, you guys will also see a fair shareI of smaller CC 4 stroke and 2 stroke dirt bike engines.

At 26:54 there appears to be some discoloration from excessive heating on the crank shaft where it connects to the piston connecting rod. Is this the case and has it ever been an issue? Awesome video btw, I was almost tempted to have to go give my DR a rip just from watching this... Too bad it's too cold today where I live 😂 subbed

Not an issue for the bluing; most likely heat dating back to factory assembly. I'm uploading part 4 the assembly next week if i can get to it. I'll have all the part ref linked as well. Thanks for the sub!
