But @YardBrah - why would after mowing low would you not lay the seed first, THEN put down the top soil, then press down with a roller (seed to soil contact from the low cut compounded by the top soil and then pressed in), with the top soil coating protecting against bird strike, and then add peat moss for moisture retention? It just seemed a bit off to me to see you roll the topsoil and then overseed. Thanks in advance and I'm a total newbie so just curious.

It would make sense that your Poa came in from your soil or compost. For new seeding I've mixed Scott's Lawn Soil with their regular bagged topsoil and bags of sand and those test spots look great now compared to the weedy disaster rest of my yard 😂 Scott's red bag "topsoil" has some small sticks and ground up mulch in it rather than being 100% soil but it worked out. There's a jump in quality to the Lawn Soil for sure

Keep what you are doing. your lawn is the proof.

You use liquid spray, and it will be absorbed threw the grass instead of the roots. My dad always put down grass seeds on top of the snow when it snowed because as the snow melts it draws the seed into the soil. He been doing that for 50 years. I do not know how he learned that. I been doing that now for 30 years and it works. I found a bag Scotts Grass Seed in my dad's shed and the date on the bag was 1995 so I took down to some property I own and spread it out on some bare spots, and I cannot believe it grew.
