I'm a white Californian, and we've lived in Ewa Gentry for 20 years, and have 3 kids born here who go to Holomua Elementary. But my 14 year old daughter is home schooled, and I am going to do the same with my son by the time he gets to junior high school. I DO NOT want my kids going to Campbell, or to Ilima Middle. No way in hell. The bullying, especially against whites, is off the charts. To tell your kids "go ahead, go put yourselves into these schools and live a Lord of the Flies experience because it will be good for you growing up", is akin to child abuse. I teach my kids to tread lightly in the Aina and to respect the culture. But no matter how rrespectful one is here, there will always be a-holes who make life miserable.

The market may collapse, but stupid people from the mainland keep coming here and buying up property and ruining Hawaii for everyone that are local to these islands. It’s not a real estate issue. It’s an invasion issue with no respect for the Aina!!!! Make Airbnb’s illegal and you will change the entire demographic here!!!

Where I am, every single person in my neighborhood who has owned a dog has not only kept that dog outside, but kept it tied up outside in all weather and completely ignored it as it barked like crazy. It makes no sense to get one and not train it or play with it, or even respond to it if its purpose is to be an alarm of sorts. This is the kind of thing that makes living in and investing in neighborhoods unbearable. The laws and ordinances never work. The only advantage to the newer neighbor I have now is that she has a little dog with not much of a bark and it goes in and out of the house. But people, you don't need pets just to have them.
@sleepy6705 күн бұрын
Only fools actually get building permits. All our neighbors did illegal work and we are all very respectful of their decision to build illegally. Only the biggest of dbags are calling DPP in for neighbors doing illegal renovations. The DPP is 100% responsible for all the illegal work going on and they issue fines. What a crock. I hear people say oh they should follow the law. Here's an analogy for you crybabies. You park your car across the street from a restaurant you are eating at. But the city placed the crosswalk 5 miles apart and you're right in the middle. So you need to walk 2.5 miles and then back 2.5 miles to get to the restaurant when you could have just crossed the street illegally. The DPP taking more than 2 months for a renovation permit is the exact same thing as placing crosswalks 5 miles apart. Will some Ned Flander law abiding weirdos walk the 5 miles? Sure. But 99% will cross illegally. And 99% will build without a permit. Enjoy all the illegal work because it's going to continue for generations to come. DPP will never change.

Not from Hawaii I am not even sure how I got to this video, with that I have a few things to say. 1 the fee/ penalty is just the cost of doing business. The state generates more revenue while the investors/builders/flippers get to complete projects and generate cash flow. 2) all that being said it’s is only ok if the work they are doing is within the regulation and meet the code to where the permit will not be denied. 3) this is a question for you, since the fines are a fraction of a percent of the revenue made on the home, and this seems to be a well know and common issue. couldn’t it be a possible business strategy to be upfront and transparent about the work that was completed prior to permit issue. With some sort of guarantee that if the DPP does fine them after the fact when it is approved in 18 months you will cover the fine, This does 2 things in my mind. It lets the buyer know you’re so l confident in the work that it will pass, and gives them a peace of mind they won’t get stuck with penalty. Could this model of screw the DPP we are building anyway and will pay them the fine be spun into a positive? .

4:22 shots like this somewhat alleviate my future EV owner in Hawaii anxiety. You would think Hawaii would do everything possible to incentivize EV ownership to include instsalling a buttload of charging stations, but at the same time Hawaii has serious power generation limitations which crimps such an effort. Did you know it's possible to make a purpose-built nuclear power plant ship that could be connected to Hawaii's grid? All of Hawaii's problems have pragmatic answers to fix them. Just need the will to implement them.
