Guys, seriously, this is one of the best videos I've seen about the whole attack/release setting part of compression. wish something like this did exist when I started, would have saved so much head ache. Now the same for the drum bus compression please. That's something I still struggle with sometimes :D

HP removes low end from detector cct only. The compression is still full band effecting all frequencies the compressor just isn't reacting to low frequencies.
@friedrichvanzandt13 күн бұрын
Great video! The side chain HP does'nt actualy let the low end "thruogh", though. It just takes it out of the detection circuit but its still getting compressed.
@HertzDrums12 күн бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, you are right, but actually you are telling the compressor to ignore the low frequencies in terms of attack and release, so to my ears it still sounds like you have less movement of the lows through the compressor overall

t's a good habit with new equipment to begin with presets. They are a great starting point, but very often they need to be adjusted. to Your music. All you need is to know how.

Thank you for the Great video!... however i need some help/tutorial using in Ableton Live 10 (AL10)... I select a new Midi Track in AL10... drag my Hertz VST3 onto midi track... all good... get playback and also playback dragging a groove onto the midi track... however, when I select Multi Out... i only (obviously) get playback on D1... all the outputs from 1 to 15 show in the "Multi Out" section... but AL10 only playbacks the D1 with a B0 note... all the bass drum C1 notes don't play, besides the other 14 don't play as well... there's a "configure" button when i click the "Spanner tool"... turns green... but i just cant configure it correctly. When I press play on midi track groove... whether the track is in "Auto" or "Off" or "Armed(red button)"... there's some little yellow balls lighting up in the tool section... but no bar lights on the midi track "Mixer Section".. so No audio output. Is there and AL10 tutorial showing how to set up the Multi Out section on a midi track with or without a groove that was dragged in from the Hertz grooves section??... and a tutorial on how to "Configure" all them "Green" little boxes so that i can get audio playback, besides being able to have separate tracks for all drum notes/pitch for each track???

Good job! I like this format of being able to hear someone with less experience talk through their process with someone who has more experience to then talk through how they would do it. It helps for beginners to intermediates I think to see both sides of the equation, and the side by side shows how the two approaches stack up in a clean way.
@DjNikGnashersАй бұрын
The original mix, the vocal sounds quite nice, but the acoustic sounds thin and weak. The 'fixed' version is much nicer, although the acoustic guitar in my opinion, sits too low in the mix, and although sounds like it has a better tone, it is too narrow, and is all mid range with not enough warmth in the bass, nor enough sparkle in the top end.

Thanks for your observations!

@@HertzDrums It's just my opinion sir, thank you for not being offended. I have been a DJ since 1980, have advanced national diploma in music technology, and play acoustic guitar/sing myself, so I guess I have some experience to offer a valid opinion.
