It is possible that some of the footage may have been shot in 1957 but some, at least, is later. The Austin A40 driven by the curate, has the registration RYI 55. This is a 1959 registration.

Dev and religion - what a combo, more lethal than Salah and Firmino! Those hymns are still in my head - indelible. Hearing the Hail Marys being rattled off reminds me of rosaries long ago. 63 years is a long time in a country's history yet the views from Dalkey and Killiney Hills, Bulloch and across to Dalkey Island from Coliemore Road still as spectacular as ever. Really enjoyed watching this but glad it's history too.

Hi John, I'd like to get in touch with you about this video but can't seem to message you from your account page. The thumbnail of the video shows Select Stores (as it was then), but I can't find where it is in your video. I'm looking for old film or an image of the shop right next door to it, as a Christmas gift for the owner and I was hoping we could get in touch regarding the film.

I can confirm this was shot in 1957 by Lar dunne, and was was voiced over by a gentle man called Toby Bailey who was involved in dramatics etc who lived across the road from Finnegans pub in Dalkey, this movie was lent kindly by Lar to one of his neighbours a few years ago and was then copied without his permission, Lar has no problem with people viewing and enjoying it on youtube etc, he is just disappointed he was not asked in the matter, these are his words yesterday when i had a chat with him, he then kindly pointed out my uncle Peter who is seen on a cart with a white connemara pony traveling through the main street! Thanks a million Lar

Yes I think I recognize Tony Baileys voice he was a gentleman he helped out with Dalkey Celtic and we christened him ''Mack the Knife'' as this was his party piece coming home in the bus or over a few jars

An amazing piece of fotage, when i first saw this i thought it was shot & narrated by Larry Mullen from Patricks road in Dalkey, as he spent his life photographing dalkey, he sadly died around 1980 and worse still his life time of photographing and collecting pictures of Dalkey etc got trown out, and it also sounded like his voice, but then i remenbered his good friend Larry Dunne had similar hobbies and was more interested in films, i am meeting up with his Nephew Jonathan for a pint at the weekend so i am gonna find out for sure, Lar is still going strong so i will ask him about it! The farm yard he mentions & shows at 2:47 just off castle street is still there as its my familys and all the Dunnes specially Paddy Dunne Lars brother were welcome guests! Anyone notice the old tram that Horace Porter stayed in some times?
