I know a "Dub" guy who rebuilt a 1600 DP with a single deuce for a dune buggy and put a relatively hot cam in it. After he broke in the engine and changed the oil, he took it out on the street in front of the house and proceeded to pull the front wheels off the ground so high, that he stood the dune buggy on its exhaust pipes, destroying them. That ride scared the crap out of him so bad, that he took the engine apart and put in a more mild cam, which still allowed the front wheels to come off the ground and still be able to see the road in front of the car. This allowed it to be more streetable, and still make good HP & TQ.

How do l know if my VW Golf mk6 tdi crankshaft possition sensor hall sensor,is pull up or pull down type.? As l believe this will affect the test procedure,am l correct?
@thedubshopАй бұрын
Most hall sensors are pulled up. It's uncommon to have them pull down. In a factory application, the ECU will have an integrated pull-up resistor. If you are testing your sensor on the bench, it will need a pull up from the output pin to the input voltage to react like it is the car. You can use a 10k resistor for this.
@colin5064Ай бұрын
@@thedubshop Thank you for you most kind help with my question most appreciated.As l was wondering why my bench test was failing to respond as expected
@colin5064Ай бұрын
So its pulling the voltage down not up have you mis titled this video?
@thedubshopАй бұрын
A typical hall sensor has a floating ground. The Pull-Up makes sure then it is not active, the voltage is above your operating threshold (pulled-up). A hall sensor turns off faster than it turns on so this is why you will generally use the falling edge as your trigger edge.

Does your supercharger let any air in/out behind the pulley? I’ve been chasing a vacuum leak down in mine, and that’s the only place air escapes (if I spray carb cleaner while running it changes AFR and bogs down) and I did a smoke test and smoke came out behind the pulley. I’m trying to figure out if this is a common thing or if mine might need to be replaced. Thanks in advance. Killer setup btw.

That is not something I have experienced but I have not looked into it either. Since the shafts are press fit in the bearings, maybe your bearing seals are going out.

This is so simple and a great video. Can this method be used to test a 3 wire CMP sensor outside the car as well?

Yes, absolutely if it is a hall sensor. Some require a pullup resistor when outside of the vehicle though.

so I guess you aren't using a rear bumper? if you are going to install a bumper, it seems to me that it would be more work removing the bumper than it is to just pull the motor the regular way. as it stands, I can change a bug motor in 45 minutes

Tuning under the curve is EXTREMELY important for an engine that will see time other than full throttle. Case in point, I had an old 1991 Chevy Cavalier station wagon with a mild turbocharged 3.1L V6, and a Haltec standalone ECU. It was tuned by a VERY popular import tuner in north Dallas. The car was getting 16 mpg!! I found that timing was locked in at 10 degrees and the air/fuel ratio hovered at around 12.0:1!!! WAY too rich and not enough timing. After I tuned the car, gas mileage went up to 25 mpg, the car gained hp and torque on the dyno, it was a LOT easier to start when it was cold, and it didn’t pop and buck at low rpm’s. Tuning under the curve is VERY important!

Actually, I don't know. The car was delivered to me with this engine that had Weber's. Since the engine comes out for EFI install, I find it easier to do the initial tuning on the dyno instead of on the road. I do know it's a 1.9l.

A friend is thinking of turbo charging his Corvair. I'm thinking he'd be better off putting 2 that's right Two of these little blowers on it. Maybe rive them off the fan with a ring and 2 pinion gears. One for each bank it seems like it would be so much easier to make happen.
