as far as i'm aware, with items in vtube studio you can only use hotkeys to trigger expressions and animations! so manual pressing is the only way i know works.

is there a way to have the mascot on the main model or is it just possible like this? Yes you can put the mascot on your main avatar but what if you would like it on your shoulder?

it would be a bit more complicated if the model is part of the main avatar. but theoretically you could set up additional parameters for the mascot movement, track that, then tell vtube studio not to track parameters for the main model in the animation, only the mascot parameters.
