How do I become a builder on minecraft? Like get my builds on the minecraft store? It says they are not accepting any applications right now for the partner program.
@jakekeltoncrafts
@jakekeltoncrafts 6 күн бұрын
@hunterporter8831 Seems like the applications are closed at the moment. Usually for stuff like this they have it open for a few months, get 10s of thousands of applications, then close the applications for a while to process and go through all the submissions. Once done, they will then do all the legal stuff for turning their selected people into Partners and then open the applications back up if they want more. You can give them your email so you know as soon as they open the applications back up. I would do that, and then work on building out your portfolio, building maps, data packs, mods etc, and showcasing them on KZbin or Planet Minecraft. You'll want an impressive library of work to showcase in your portfolio once applications open back up. So whether it is detailing, parkour routes, fantastical ideas, or just challenging organic shapes, there is always something to be practicing building! Does that help? Let me know if I missed something or am off the mark somewhere.

This was a really cool video. I have some notes if you wouldn't mind. In most cases, Not so much criticisms as things I have noticed. Though there are a few minor criticisms mixed in. For one, You mentioned boiling oil. I won't say boiling oil was *not* used in castle defence. Because they would use whatever they had when push came to shove. However it certainly was not the primary thing they used. From my research, The most common things used were boiling water, Hot sand, Boiling pitch, Human waste, Hot rocks, Cold rocks, Etc. In general, They threw the most common unpleasant things they had over the walls. Boiling oil would be used primarily if they didn't have other better things available in that moment. Because oil was a lot more expensive. One thing I noticed about your castle defences was that the crenellations (The little bits of stone which stick up to defend the people on the walls.) are not quite as tall as they should be. Usually, You want the crenellations to be at least the height of a man. Because at that point, It is basically impossible to hit someone hiding behind them. You can get away with them being a little shorter. But that does slightly risk people being able to angle shots such that they can hit the defenders. However overall, This is a minor gripe for reasons I will get to later. One other thing I noticed is the distinct lack of machicolations and murder holes. This isn't a strict dealbreaker because many real castles were missing some of these features as well as the thing I will get to. But I always feel like builds benefit from them. For reference. Machicolations are little slots underneath the crenellations for you to shoot arrows or throw things at attackers who get too close to the walls. Murder holes are holes in the floor of a gatehouse which are used for the same purpose. This next bit is the big thing I would suggest if you wanted to touch up the build ever so slightly. And it is the reason that the other things aren't really a problem. Your castle is defensible primarily because of its location. It is entirely infeasible for someone to scale the mountain in order to reach the walls anywhere else. The only way to attack it is to cross a narrow bridge and assault the front gate. And it is for this reason that I would suggest you beef up the security on the bridge significantly. Put multiple gatehouses along the length of the bridge and then perhaps put drawbridges on them. If you had four gatehouses which each had drawbridges which covered pits in the bridge or even led straight through the bridge and into the valley below, This castle would be nigh impossible to take in a direct siege. The only feasible way to take it would be to starve the inhabitants out by cutting off their supply chain. Lastly, And something you might already have which I don't know about since I haven't downloaded the world, There's a thing on castles called a sallyport. It's essentially a tiny door hidden somewhere in a castle which can only let one guy through and is used either to allow important people or messengers to escape the castle, To covertly allow supplies or messages to be ferried into the castle, Or to allow special groups of soldiers to leave the castle and sabotage the enemies and weaken their forces. Overall though, Great build. Please don't take anything I have said as a discredit to the quality of it. I just really like castles and want to help spread knowledge of how *cool* the real ones are.

@jakekeltoncrafts 8 күн бұрын
@Dryym Excellent suggestions and recommendations all around! For the oil, I completely agree. I don't know why oil was the first thing that came to mind with the boiling pot, but I know there are better, less expensive alternatives. I think water was what I was thinking of and brain just decided to go on vacation. "Hot stuff to make invaders sad" would have sufficed, haha. Agree on the crenelations, which generally are 1 to 1.5 blocks high. I didn't want to do 2 blocks tall as, for selfish reasons, I didn't want things getting in the way of my view, haha. Murder holes are excellent, and it sounds like you watch Shadversity as well! Two reasons I didn't add them is, I've yet to find a good block/combination of blocks that allowed one to look down/shoot arrows through a hole but ALSO looked structurally sound. I have tried with walls, but until we get vertical slabs, I decided to go with asthetically pleasing and that looked logical in terms of structurally built. What I did try to do, however, is have all wall's bases able to be hit from *somewhere* in the castle, whether it be from a tower, another patch of wall, or just looking down. Can't give attackers a safe zone, haha. The first gatehouse has a drawbridge. The second doesn't, and probably could use one. I've never loved the little domed things down the bridge, so I could probably turn those into mini gate houses. But the goal with the empty-ish bridge is to avoid enemies having cover (which the domes kind of provide) in an assault across the bridge. There are dozens of locations archers can fire on the bridge from all angles which would make a full on charge a slaughter. But, more gatehouses definitely slows a charge as well. Starvation is the best tactic for this castle, for sure, hence building a large storehouse and having a natural spring of water inside. But mainly the goal is "don't waste your time, there are easier targets", haha. There IS a secret entrance! Not great for delivering large amounts of supplies, but if you know where to go, there is a sneaky way both to get in, and for the Lord/King to sneak out if the castle is likely to fall. The last lore piece I wanted to share is, if you look closely, I built it to resemble a Lord's Manor/Keep that then got turned into a stronghold/castle over many years as the Nether War raged on. Sections of the fortress don't have an open wall top, and the Keep itself is limited on ramparts, as they were originally built for looks rather than war, but gradually as the war went on, more and more fortifications had to be built. I don't know if that came across in the final build, but it was in my head, haha. Glad you overall enjoyed it! Ever since building it, I've wanted to have a "200 attackers vs 50 defenders" type event and see if the attackers could "kill the King". Maybe one day I'll pull it off with a server of players.
@Dryym
@Dryym 8 күн бұрын
@@jakekeltoncrafts A really well thought out response you've given. As I mentioned, The stuff with the crenelations is not a huge deal because it is completely infeasible that someone would attack the *walls* of the castle in a way which would make a huge difference. It's also the reason I didn't bring arrow slits up at all. The actual *location* of the castle is doing most of the work here. So what you found aesthetically appealing is worthwhile here. I *used* to watch Shad. But I have stopped at this point because I think his channel went downhill. He's started to be a little bit stubbornly wrong about things recently. The most recent example I can give since it was the last video of his I actually watched is that he started going on about how "mangonels" were not widely used in the medieval period. He then goes on to show a siege weapon which was used in the medieval period. The issue is that the thing he was calling a mangonel was actually called an onager. And this is a well known myth. So well known that it has its own wikipedia page. And the siege weapon he showcases was the real thing which is called a mangonel. It left a really bad taste in my mouth that he would say a misconception which is so easily debunked by just googling the name of the thing you are talking about before making the video. As such, I am just sorta independently researching these things now to make sure I am spreading as little bad information as possible. I actually independently researched the hot sand thing before making this comment just to be sure I was correct about that. Highly recommend going forward with the bridge changes if you are already thinking about them. I think it would make the castle that much more fortified and would really improve the overall look of it. It'd still be decidedly fantasy, But also extremely defensible. I really like those details and the lore you have behind it. I think you have filled the space with about as much detail as it is possible to do in vanilla. If you were using something like Conquest Reforged, That would be different. But Conquest is a bit much for a lot of people and can give real bad decision paralysis if you are not prepared for it. When I do builds, I really like filling the space to make it feel as lived in as possible. Though people sometimes complain about not being able to move around much. My previous small castle in a modded server I played on actually had a 2x2 spiral staircase going up it because the interior footprint I had to work with on that build was 7x7 and I didn't want to have a ladder. *Technically* 2x2 spiral staircases are possible in vanilla with the debug stick or clever tower setups. But in this case I just used Create copycat blocks. I think seeing the castle be defended would be really cool. But that kind of thing is always a little difficult because the capabilities of MC characters are different than real people. Even without block breaking. An example is sallyports and other types of chokepoints. Irl, There is a strict limit to the amount of people you can have going through it at once. But in MC, People can just force their way through a chokepoint en masse. And then you get into issues with the way MC characters can climb inhumanly well and whatnot. A 45 degree hill IRL is a massive obstacle. In MC it is an inconvenience. Lastly. Quick question. Have you made any garderobes in the castle?
@jakekeltoncrafts
@jakekeltoncrafts 8 күн бұрын
@Dryym Yes... sorta! After a lot of the castle was finished, I found a spot for one, though admittedly it should have more than one, but in the servants quarters main room. It's kind of a combo "waste dumping" and human waste spot, but I should have planned more in the castle and will need to plan ahead better in the future.

@@jakekeltoncrafts To be fair, It's totally fine. You can always add chamber pots and whatnot for this purpose. @zacharycunningham7669 I absolutely agree! My initial build was to make a castle ruins, and I wanted to make the castle and then weather/make it look like it was destroyed by a Wither, which is why I didn't add villagers. But I like the castle a lot, so I am thinking of trying to villager-proof it so I can add villagers running around. They will all mostly be fishermen due to all the barrels everywhere, but you do what you gotta do, haha. Wish there was an easy invisible way to keep them from moving, for stuff like shopkeepers.

If i may ask, how do you decide when and when not to use gradients in a build? Your gradient on the side walls looks fantastic
@jakekeltoncrafts
@jakekeltoncrafts 11 күн бұрын
@amanasibn8026 Thank you! One thing I try to do with my builds is make them look good from every angle. For gradients, I don't follow a lot of current trends of only looking at blocks for their color, as it is fun for me to also consider the material. IE, you won't find (much) wool in a castle wall or melons on a roof. What that means is I usually use gradients in large outside walls and just minor texturing inside. If all is 6 or 8 blocks high, it might just need a couple blocks changed for a texture, but if it is 20-30 blocks high, it probably could use a gradient. A good reference is real life, where most single floor homes don't have a "gradient" to their outside walls, but a 6 story factory will have clear rain, sun, and age weathering across its surface. Hope that helps!
@Dryym
@Dryym 8 күн бұрын
@@jakekeltoncrafts I actually respect the hell out of preserving the material of the build in your palette building process. I tend to build things at as close to real scale as is feasible. And things are meant to be seen up close for me. So any level of material incongruity will be *extremely* obvious if I do it. Like, I am fine with using deepslate, Blackstone, Basalt, Etc. to represent charred stone. But I wouldn't want to use basalt to represent burnt wood like I have seen some people do. It feels wrong to me.

@@SixWings Oh wow! Thank you! I remember the first time seeing your arch tower and having my mind blown that "this is possible?!" Thank you for all the inspiration and care put into your own builds! The Monestary is still one of my favorite builds.

@SideBit I'll definitely have to check it out. Bliss is a bit too... bloomy and "realistic" for my liking, though I have started to get used to it a bit. Thanks for the suggestion! And happy to share building tips any time!

Hmmmmm, good question. It's vanilla friendly for Java (you don't need any mods) which means it should be able to be converted into a Bedrock version using something like Chunker, but I have not tested it myself, apologies: nodecraft-com.webpkgcache.com/doc/-/s/nodecraft.com/support/games/minecraft/converting-java-and-bedrock-worlds If you get it to convert/work I would love to know!

@emieliade I ran around and loaded a bunch of chunks to make a world map a whole back. I probably need to run it through one of those programs that you can delete/forget chunks and reset it so the world map is smaller and make the file size smaller. I'll ping you on here if I manage to get a working smaller size. Sorry it's not working atm! 😵
