That is because they (France) invested heavily in this rail stations and services thus : A lot of subsidies to state run companies, many contractors etc etc. hence a lot of corruption on kick-backs. They need to return this money somehow. Also , all these rail services are usually heavily unionised (especially in France) thus : electoral support on local and national scale. They literally prioritise larger group of voters over smaller one covering this nonsense with ECOLOGICAL BULLSHIT. This is how the France is....

I think the only one advantage to premium economy in the future is to avoid the 3-3-3 layout if travelling alone or with companion in planes like 787/ a350.

Indeed, I find the resurgence of night trains in Europe exciting. I haven’t taken one in years, and as a solo traveler I prefer hotels, but I definitely think it’s a great option, and may cover something like the Nightjet in the future!

No, troppo bello, sarebbe, ma troppo impegnativo....

I can tell you as a French person that this law is absolutely stupid it just makes people lose their jobs in small regional French airports, moreover even though these flights are meant to be connecting flights you can still book them even though you are not connecting. Also, the 2h reference is based on the closest TGV station so it is just making the national airline weaker against low cost carriers from foreign countries because if you take the exemple of Ryanair they are departing from Beauvais (even though it is labeled as Paris) which is 1h30 of car away from Paris and so carriers flying from this airport can continue to operate routes like Paris-Nantes because they are far away from any TGV station (because they count the time traveling by car in the 2h). The other problem is that it makes travelling in your own country more and more expensive because spoiler alert the train network in France may be extensive but it is so expensive you can always find cheaper prices on Air France than the TGV and it is not even a low cost airline, and I really can't understand why it is so expensive because the trains are governmentally owned and so it is already been paid by our taxes (for example a 45min train ride from my home town to Paris costs 32 euros by person for a round trip, or a TGV trip from Paris to Southern France costs around 100 euros) so I think that if they want us to use the train they should just make it more competitive against car and air travel instead of putting out stupid and inefficient laws. And I'm not even starting on the fact that many destinations labeled as TGV trains are not high speed travel all the way to your destination (like Paris to Nice) because there are no TGV lines there and so the trip takes about 6h by train against 1h30 by plane.

Domestic European train travel is great and usually high-speed (well, not very fast in most of Eastern European nations, speaking as a Romanian), but internationally, European train travel can be at times heavily disjointed and slow.

As long as the service for baggage and unaccompanied children is not identical between the plane and the train, the ban on short flights in favor of the train will only be a scam for political purposes.
@Ellinillard
@Ellinillard 4 күн бұрын
In France - don’t know about other countries, unaccompanied children have better service than with airlines - separate area in the train -, and luggage can be picked up at home and delivered to your final destination. Also, even if not available, why wouldn’t it be a political scam ? Not everyone has children or travels with 5 suitcases.

Ha I wish! My last job had some flexibility, but no, I'm not even allowed to take my work laptop outside the US. I have a fairly generous PTO policy but that's not it either. The trick is that I batch record and have a significant backlog. This trip you're seeing now was over last Thanksgiving (2023). I had to add the bit about Air France refitting the cabins...because that wasn't a thing when I took the flight. I had to make a similar post-correction in my Finnair review re: the baggage policy. At this stage I've got so much of a backlog that the channel will be weekly for this series, before returning to bi-weekly for "Around the World With You," which I filmed back in March. But that runs into 2025, by which time I'll have filmed my December/January trip ("Journey to Macronesia?" TBD on the title). Not to pimp my Instagram, but I post there where I actually am/what I'm flying in real time, which serves as a preview as to what is coming in the next 6 months or so!

Better 'reclining' system IMO. Too many premium economy seats are reclining a rediculous amount and properly encroaching on the person behind, especially if they choose not to recline themselves.

IDK, af is the shame of the country, lost my luggage and half of the passengers. I am waiting for more than 3 days given that I paid for business. So, what is the point of paying any extra money if such basic services as luggage delivery is not provided by so called airlines
@Travelog
@Travelog 12 күн бұрын
Indeed, AF is notorious with checked luggage. They had a meltdown post Covid that I discussed in my last AF video where I play clips of Megan Kelly (love her or hate her) talking about how they lost all 5 of her bags for literally a month. It was only her celebrity that got a response. Godspeed, and hope you put in AirTags!

Awesome review as always and this was fun to watch as I flew from JFK to CDG in December in the exact same seat (like literally the same seat as you as I was in 12A on the 777 and I booked using the exact same promo award, though mine was to XZN aka Avignon TGV, since you can book TGV high speed train connections from CDG to certain stations with IATA codes with Flying Blue). I'd certainly have to agree with your conclusion on the product though.

For accommodations I think the miner's cabins on the edge of town are the most affordable. A bit of a walk to town, but still in the safe zone. As for excursions your choices are limited because you can't leave the town without a guide with a gun. Even if you want to hike on your own there's paperwork to fill out with the Governor. I think some of the least expensive boat excursions started at about $100, the ones I did were about $200. It's just that your options are limited.

I used to live in KW. If you take the boat, make sure you get good seasickness meds - the ocean west/souwest of KW can get very, very rough - I called it the 'Vomit Freedom' because all the tourists were just throwing up the entire time. But it's fun to watch the seasick passengers do the 'drunken ballerina' - when seasick and the boat is being thrown around people fling their arms out from their sides and cross their legs at their ankles, every now and then they go up on pointe in their flip-flops... Then they twirl around to the garbage can to vom. But sometimes they just don't make it to the garbage, and the vom goes everywhere... If that happens, help the seasick passenger - seriously, KW is about being kind. Then after your time on the island you'll usually find a boat passenger that well, missed their boat. So, they fly back in the seaplane. I always make it a point to be the jerk in those situations and proclaim loudly, "hey, since she didn't pay for a ticket, she can sit outside on the wing - she can pick the right or left wing though, that's okay". (LOL!) Then I offer the boatless tourist a snack or whatever I have, and always invite them to come and have a drink on me after we get back to KW. BTW, at the fort, check out the chapel if you like ghosts. That's all I'm gonna say about that - the rest you'll have to decide for yourself. The snorkeling is great there, but there can be strong currents at times, so just be sure you're a good swimmer if you go out in that, because they can be exhausting. Anyway, you'll be tempted to hurry because of limited time - just make it a point to come back. Spend your time at the fort relaxing, walking around enjoying the history and gorgeously stark and beefy architecture, and drink plenty of water - and don't forget to give your husband or wife plenty of water because you did after all lock them up in the dungeon, and there's no water in there -then give them a kiss goodbye and tell them how nice it was knowing them... Oh look, your plane is boarding!

Did the half day trip with my son in 2017. Lived in KW 69-73 and visited several times but Ft Jefferson was always on my bucket list. It was expensive but amazing. Unfortunately 4 hours isn’t enough if you want to spend time snorkeling. Would love to camp there for a couple days.

Spirit's website is an abomination, their app is just slightly better, and yes, they charge for anything and everything. What I like about them is that they fly Airbus. I don't want to fly 737 NG because of build quality and neither I will ever fly 737 MAX because MCAS has never been fully fixed. Flew Spirit three times in the last two years coast to coast, no major issues.
