I've always thought the Police killed Donald. His stories not only gave an insight to the Underworld, but also to the true heart of the Police Departments at that time. The Gangsters in his books are at least human. The Police in his books are portrayed as the Monsters they were (and still are in most cases). You have to consider that Goines' books told the WORLD how they really were EVEN in a Northern City like Detroit.

Nobody that I know in Detroit ever thought he OD'd. The word has always been he and Shirley were ambushed and killed.

Hello from London uk ❤ I have loved this woman Ms Cash ever since I was a young lad and caught her by chance when I saw the omega man on tv for the very first time, I was amazed that a black woman was heating co-star yet I was depressed that even then by the 90s the progression made since the early 70s was not as much as it should have been. I’m really saddened that she experienced racism when she visited England in the 60s but not surprised. I would like to add a footnote to this for historical context - in the 60s britain had just experienced its first wave of mass immigration - where while neighbourhoods of inner cities became a mixture of black and Asian ghettos in less than a decade - for the population to experience that so quickly when it had never occurred before was obviously alarming. When the black gi joes of the American army were based in Britain during the Second World War they were struck by how warmly the British treated them and the battle of bamber bridge - look it up - only highlights how warmly received they were. 1960s Italy was similar to 1940s Britain - the Italians were warm because they had no black immigrants - Italy was still losing its population to emigration. Fast forward to today - Italy has a far right government and Italian football and politics is plagued by racism - by Contrast British interracial interactions whilst far from perfect remain the envy of the world - and British multiculturalism is a major success story today.

Love the documentary on the attractive and talented Cash. Glad to see her being remembered and not forgotten. But I believe the first black/white interracial kiss was between Dorothy Dandrige and Stewart Whitman in the Decks Ran Red made in the late 1950s.

He was a head of his times in those days pride and awareness of self was more than that could understand or except. Just imagine if they would have opened that door to him what that would mean and do for people of color. The respect he commanded he would have instilled and every person he came in contact. Just think how far black actors would have been now if they would have opened up that door
