Group B was destroyed, in my opinion, by the insane crowds that flooded the roads, often inches from speeding, barely in control cars. The RS200 that plunged into a crowd did so after the driver dodged to avoid hitting a fan that wasn't giving way quickly enough. It ended the RS200 and the lives of four innocent people. It still makes me sick to think about it.

This is explained wrong. The Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo is a highly modified, unrestricted version of Porsche’s 919 Hybrid LMP1 car, originally designed for the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) which included the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in which it competed in from 2014 to 2017. After Porsche retired from WEC in 2017, the 919 Hybrid Evo was developed as a farewell project to showcase the car’s full potential without the limitations of racing regulations. This car visited famous circuits worldwide like Monza, Spa, and the Nordschleife, in which it broke lap records. Engine and Power: The 919 Hybrid Evo retains the same 2.0-liter V4 turbocharged engine, coupled with an electric motor powering the front axle. The combined output was increased to over 1,160 horsepower, thanks to software and hardware upgrades, with the internal combustion engine producing around 720 horsepower and the electric system contributing another 440 horsepower. • Aerodynamics: Without regulation constraints, Porsche enhanced the aerodynamics of the Evo with a larger rear wing, more efficient front diffuser, and an expanded floor area. This allowed the car to generate around 50% more downforce than the original WEC 919, improving cornering speed and overall grip. • Weight Reduction: By removing components required for endurance racing-like air conditioning, windshield wipers, and lights-Porsche cut the weight down to just 849 kg (1,871 lbs). • Records and Performance: The 919 Hybrid Evo set lap records at several prestigious circuits. Notably, it broke the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record in 2018 with a time of 5 minutes 19.55 seconds, driven by Timo Bernhard, smashing the previous record set in 1983 by Stefan Bellof in a Porsche 956.

If Ford would have wanted to actually beat Ferrari, it would have been in Formula 1, not endurance racing. Formula 1 has always been Ferrari's primary focus. Sports car racing has always been a secondary consideration. Ford beating Ferrari at Le Mans is like beating one of the Yankee's minor league teams, and saying you beat The New York Yankees. It's not the same as having beat their Major League team in the World Series.

@@JCTaylor21 Not really. LeMans had far greater stature in those days. It outshone F1 in the mainstream media. And the greatest drivers such as Brabham, Surtees and Amon etc all made statements to that effect while alive.

That must explain why Lemans was front page news on every major paper in 1959, when Aston Martin won. And likewise when Jaguar won lemans 5 times between 1951-1957. I can see why you like pretending lemans wasn’t the premier race in the 1950’s.

I am sorry to correct you but adding tape to a car does not increase engine power. One thing you did get right is the gt40 was basically a lola t70 with a huge ford engine.

It is a stretch to say the GT 40 is just a Lola T70. The only real similarity is the man that designed of the chassis. You are right that the cotton tufts don't add horse power, nor was it an idea unique to the Shelby's team.

@@georgecunningham7916 a Lola T70? It was originally based on the Lola GT6. In fact the first GT40’s were basically modified and upgraded GT6’s with Halibrand wheels, rear spoiler, better brakes etc. Not much in common with the T70. (as terrific a car as the T70 was).

Not the complete truth. Ford had been in negotiations with Ferrari and Ferrari was willing to sell to Ford if he had control of the Racing team. Ford had agreed to it but when the contract was presented to Ferrari that stipulation was left out and Ferrari walked out. Ford probably thought that Enzo would not look at the contract.

Yeah. But the video also explains that. It says that Ford wanted to buy Ferrari, but when both brands disagreed, and Ferrari insulted Ford, this one wanted to beat Ferrari on the race track.

Ken Miles disobeyed team orders and when Ford asked about a dead heat the organizers said yes that's ok but then after the final pitstops changed thier minds. At the end of the race Bruce McLaren was definitely in front of Miles. Did he speed up or did Miles slow down, we will never know for sure. Also Leo Bebe was portrayed as a villain in the movie when in fact he was nothing of the sort

Baloney. FIAT boss Agnelli had been in back room negotiations with Ferrari before Ford entered the picture. Well known today. Ferrari was using Ford to run a “Dutch Auction”. Ford simply gave him the excuse to be the a hole he was well known as, and unwittingly causing his own humiliation by insulting Henry Ford II. As for Bebe’s behaviour, interesting side topic that. Movies need villains however I’ve only seen his relatives deny he was a careerist jerk, whereas some surviving members of the Shelby team didn’t seem to like him much. And people who rise that fast in the corporate world are often not exactly nice… Perhaps the movie wasn’t entirely inaccurate there?

@@marksimpson2689”We’ll never know”? The whole race was recorded for TV and the lap times are available. Miles definitely slowed down, that’s fact. Whereas McLaren had been saving the car for hours as directed. What has never been settled is whether the 6 drivers truly understood the rules regarding traveled distance including grid positions during a tie. That was sprung on them post race. Miles got on well with all the Kiwi drivers, especially his co driver Denny Hulme. And there’s never been any evidence of animosity between him and Bruce McLaren. So all we will never know is what level of knowledge of the rules the drivers had. That movie is full of BS but was still entertaining. And that’s what it’s for.

Racing triple crown doesn't consist of races which you counted there. Only Le Mans is part of it and other 2 are Indy 500 and Monte Carlo F1.
