I started using a straight razor back in the 70s while i was in college. Back then i shaved about once a week. My very first razor was a Spanish made carbon steel "El Barrlilto." One day i put it away hastily without drying it properly. By the next time i tried to use it a week later the edge was already badly pitted and useless. I've gladly used stainless steel since.
@WaxbellShaving18 күн бұрын
I understand that decision fully. I think the advantages of stainless steel are significant and I'm pretty sure that the next one I buy will be stainless.

Hi. Nice shave. I agree the shave soap does not have a good taste 🙂 usually. Is it hard honing with a handheld stone? Have a good one
@WaxbellShavingАй бұрын
Hi! And thanks! Haven't encountered a a tasty soap yet, but I bet it's out there :) I like handheld stones and I got used to it early. I feel like I have good control when I hold the stone in my hand. A bench sized stone speeds up the process since the whole edge can have contact with the stone, except with smiling edge razors. Bench sized finishing stones can get pretty expensive as well and that's the main reason I bought smaller stones. I think 5" by 2" is great for finishers. Take care!

There are not many Videos about that Stone - I thought ill give him a Try. 93€ is a fine Price :D Do you think its a really 10-12K Grit Range or Lower?
@WaxbellShaving2 ай бұрын
I am not sure about the grit rating. Some vendors say it's over 10K and some say it's between 8-10K, but it's definitely fine enough to use as a finishing stone. Let me know if you buy the stone and what you think of it. I haven't used it enough to have a thorough understanding of it :)

@@WaxbellShaving Hello :) I had the Black Shadow and own the Green Shadow, and my Opinion is: the Green Shadow produces a gentler Edge than the Black Shadow. The Shave with Green is more Keen with less Irritation. Thats why ive sold the Black one. Nonetheless the Green Shadow cant be good as a Jnat or other popular Natural Stone. I would place the Green Shadow something in 8-10K Synthetic Range
@WaxbellShaving2 ай бұрын
@@Keviin2310 Nice! I'm gonna have to use the green one more. I found it pretty hard to work with and I've only tried it on a few razors. How do you use it in your routine, if you don't mind me asking?
@Keviin23102 ай бұрын
@@WaxbellShaving absolutely No Problem Sir. Ive done Just a quick refresh (Overhone) on an already finished Razor. I recommend to raise a Slurry with Diaplate, sandpaper or an Natural Nagura (Mejiro, Koma or Tomo) and then Just hone it. I would recommend doing Finish Strokes on Clean/rinsed Whetstone with fresh Water, because my Experience was, a Slate works better with Slurry. Just thin the Slurry with fresh Water by Spray. I Hope It is understandable for you, since Iam from Germany, and i never really talked or write technically in english :)
@WaxbellShaving2 ай бұрын
@Keviin2310 Thanks! I understood it perfectly :) English is not my first language either (Sweden). I don't have any japanese naguras, just the tip of the green shadow (which is really hard to raise slurry on). I'm gonna try your method with light slurry and end on clean water next time I hone.
@zenrazor6593 ай бұрын
I think you must think about maintenance of carbon steel 🤔. I don't know one who strop and hone just only decently 😂. How many strokes on leather did you do?🎉
