My hair sucks up water quickly, and dries very quickly. I can have soaking wet hair and after towel drying to get most of the water out, it dries in like an hour. I think that makes me high porosity? I find it very difficult to keep my hair moisturized and I find all of the social media recommendations I hear (no oil, no conditioners, just spray your hair with rose water and aloe juice and love) don’t work for me. When I do that my hair is dry AF and crispy.

love your videos!! please clarify : You mentioned not going into the same whole twice. Firstly, do you mean twice *in a row * ? Secondly, if you meant to avoid going into the same whole twice does that mean if you're doing two sets of a 4-point rotation, you would do 3-6-9-12 and then 4-7-10-1? This part really stumps me. Everyone says don't go into the same whole but doing 3-6-9-12 over and over again, is the same hole....
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay 3 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching!! When I say don’t go through the same hole twice, I mean in a row because you will create a T shape. So once I complete a full 4 point rotation then I start from the beginning and do it over again in the same order.

Please help. I have to do my first retie but my hair looks bulgy at the last point of my braid loc and when I tried to retie one loc, it just looked bulgier...I don't know if you get me.

@boitumelo.speaks

@@DavidJaysWay 😆wish you replied sooner, I ended up chopping my hair. The braid locs remained thin (mine just didn't get thicker) but the fuzz I guess it is, was getting bigger with every retie. So, thin braid loc then a bulge at the bottom. No one else seemed to have this problem so I saw no other way. Thank you tho for responding. I'm still going to do locs, but I think a twist loc would fit my type of hair

I think a lot of the things the loc community recommends (no oils, no conditioners, no this, no that) are detrimental. I am a semi-freeform, and my hair is thriving again since I reintroduced a cowash I used before. The only difference is that now I dilute it a lot more. And you are right, I have gone back to using a light leave-in spray moisturizer that I used before loc'ing. Can't believe everything you hear out here. You gotta do what is best for your hair!

Do you just let braid locs grow out naturally even if it frizzes and there is new growth or are you supposed to interlock/retwist them every now and then? If so how often?
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay 20 күн бұрын
I let the braid locs grow out for a while and then interlock. The first year I interlocked once every 4 weeks and then I stretched it to 5 weeks then all the way up to 9-11 weeks now in between interlock sessions

My thing is …I want mine to have some of the attributes of twists locs and braid locs 🤦🏾‍♀️ I want the uniformed look that braid locs give but also a full look because my hair it thick but a lot more denser than it used to be ..I’m not too sure how it would look all braided up in the beginning…but then my hair type is 3C and getting twists they may unravel
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay 20 күн бұрын
You might just have to be patient and endure what your hair looks like braided for several months. I think it would be worth it to have it braided and not have to stress about the unraveling.

David I have a question. What about braid locs started with extensions at the end of the persons hair (not root). Will the extension (human hair) stay skinny and their hair mature? Do you think there would be unevenness in density? My fear with the extension is my hair going through a process but the extension isn’t.
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay 20 күн бұрын
Yes that is a real thing. When I’ve used extensions I’ve always attached them near the root and incorporated my hair into the extension for that very reason. Since your hair will mature and go through a process that the extension won’t. Now, if you’re using human hair, the extension does change a little overtime with washes and whatnot but it’s not going to condense the way your real hair will.

Hi! I’m about 1 year and two months in, I just started doing my own reties and changed from what my loctician had been doing (which I’m assuming is 4 point) to 2 point rotation in hopes to achieve a fuller look since I felt that my locs were thinning throughout the shaft. Would retwisting also help my locs thicken up?
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay 20 күн бұрын
Retwisting could help with that but just be careful not to retwist too tight or way too often. Because you could still experience thinning if overdone

If I was to restart my locs maybe I would do micros but right now I only have somewhere between 170 and 200 locks and I can only imagine how frustrating maintenance would be with 400 more lol! Although I've gotten pretty efficient at separating the roots and braiding my locs after I wash them so they can dry over night. I actually got a compliment on. My twist out look earlier today
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay 20 күн бұрын
Depending on the size of your head, 200 locs might already be close to a microloc size. I had a little over 300 when I had my full head of locs.

I started my dreads with braids locs two years ago and they came out nice ! Braids hold better for my texture of hair ! I used a crotch needle at the ends after a few months of using rubber bands. Took a whole year for them to start looking like dreads, but I was happy with the results !! Unfortunately I will be starting them tomorrow (cut them off ) to restart ( had a few bad hair cut experiences) 7:56

My son has starter locks, he’s on week 3 but has severe dandruff and very thick flakes on his scalp.. Will this process help to remove those? He’s starting to reconsider his lock journey so I’m trying to keep it alive in him!
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay Ай бұрын
This method will allow you to wash the locs better without them unraveling as much but it may or may not help getting the patches of dry scalp to lift all the way. For me, I was able to get most of it to lift, breakdown and come out but not all of it.

I do a lot of dancing, and hairs keep getting all over my face, which is quite irritating. So, I started using the littleextrraa neatfix hair finishing stick. It’s only been a week, and I’m quite happy with how it holds my hair without making it hard or oily. Additionally, it’s super easy to apply. I’d say, forget hair gel-neatfix is the latest thing for girls!

I’m in the 3b hair type family my hair is fine and my natural curls are loose so I will still have to braid and band and I’m not going to wash my hair right away.
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay Ай бұрын
With a looser curl pattern that is probably a really good decision. Start off braiding and banding and over time you will start to notice your hair changing and maturing and then one day you might braid and band all of you hair except for a small section to test it out and see how it does before washing your entire head loose.

I watched the pros and cons video your speaking of and I wanted more in depth/details which is why I’m here I’m about to install my own braid locs this coming Monday. And my cousin is going to help me install them and she was asking if she should braid them tight or looser does it loc any faster or slower depending on how tight the braid was originally braided.
@DavidJaysWay
@DavidJaysWay Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching my videos. In my honest opinion, I would braid as loose as possible so they still look nice and stay braided but not so tight that they look like you’re trying to rock braids forever. The looser the braids the quicker the hair is able to move around and start maturing! Because I started with braids, I was able to wash my hair on day one and never dealt with any unraveling.
