Love those PMR vertical boilers. Your No. 5 coke bottle engine would pair up very nicely with this boiler 😀

Nice runner, just go easy with that Mamod vapourising burner if you have any lead fittings on the engine. I fired my very similar Weeden 14 with the same burner & learned the hard way by melting the lead pulley as the flames licked up around the side of the boiler due to the omission of the usual enclosed firebox.

The repairs (minor) went well. It runs very well at a slow speed when I use my 'dimmer switch' power reducer. That also increases the run time which is fairly short as the boiler holds less than the B31 boiler.

Love the look of the solid flywheel on these early engines. Are you going to fix the leaking sns site glass? Thanks for showing and good luck.

Thanks for the nice comment. I've since come to the conclusion that the sight glass and fittings are good, but the end cap has a leak, looking from the front, from the 2 o'clock thru at least the 6 o'clock position. I will try soldering. I have a vacuum pump and I'm thinking of applying a mild vacuum to the boiler when doing the soldering (after a good clean up) to draw the solder in to plug the holes for good.

pretty. I have one similar. What's the electric heater? I wonder if it would work in mine. It looks like it works well.

Nice engine. Did you remove the flywheel? I need to disassemble one and can't tell if its pinned to the crankshaft.
@waynewheaton6244
@waynewheaton6244 Жыл бұрын
No, I have never taken the flywheel off. I do see there is a screw so that must hold it on. I recommend applying WD40 on the screw and flywheel/axle area before trying to remove it. You will have to do something about the piston and valve connecting rods beforehand.

Where did you find a replacement chimney?
@waynewheaton6244
@waynewheaton6244 Жыл бұрын
www.ebay.de/str/glueckskind101. It cost, price+shipping, $50+. The chimneys are one of the first parts to be lost and they are hard to find at a reasonable price because some steamers HOARD them. By the dozens, and I've seen the pics. Otherwise, pretty damn clean, I think.

@@waynewheaton6244 Thanks for the info. I'm looking into buying one for sale. It's missing the chimney but looks in ok shape. How much do you think is a reasonable price for a fair condition 125-4?
@waynewheaton6244
@waynewheaton6244 Жыл бұрын
Fair condition implies ok but with multiple issues. This one is very clean. In comic book language it is very fine plus. I think mine would bring $150+.

What electronic banner do use for the engine
@waynewheaton6244
@waynewheaton6244 Жыл бұрын
The electronic banner is an 'incandescent bulb' dimmer and outlets in an electrical box. Good up to 600 watts, it is my go-to when running electrically heated engines, especially those without a throttle.

Thanks for the video, Wayne! Must be a good engine, seeing how slow it was able to go, and keep running. Do you think it ran out of steam, or maybe the Teflon rings failed or seized up? A really neat engine anyway!
