Robert Shaw as Capt Quinte reminds me ssoo much of my sadly passed Uncle Frank Martin of Torbay, Newfoundland & Labrador. Third generation in-shore fisherman. Tough as nails. Could be on the water in his 25 foot Cape Islander as long as it took. He taught me how to jig codfish. He drank rum kind of too easily. But he was a great man, great provider! He is missed.

Dreyfus has always been an over rated actor period. The guy over reacts to everything. It’s not just that everything I’ve heard about people meeting him and saying he’s hateful but didn’t believe that until his whining and privilege shone through recently. So who cares about this fruitcake and his insane earnings of an old failed actor. He means nothing and hate is his legacy now.

You're conflating his acting ability and his career with his actions as an elderly man with some serious issues. How is that any less childish than his recent behavior?

Ya know, Dreyfus is trashing the new Jaws play, calling it based on tabloid gossip and making up stories about how competitive they were with each other. Yet, right here, he’s clearly contributing to these stories. So, which is it, Mr. Dreyfus?

in my opinion Robert as the star. If you see the interview with Richard talking with Roberts granddaughter even then he knew that Robert was a force to be dealt with. In my opinion the 3 greatest movies will always be Jaws, The Exorcist and Jurassic Park

Oh my gosh, I saw a fun video of you with my nephew, Miles, yesterday. You were doing the Crush cup against the Pepsi can. I am loving listening to all your videos. You have always been my favourite male actor of all time and Shirley MacLaine is my favourite female actress. I love you because of your energy Richard. Hugs from Beaufort, NC…. Lived in San Diego 33 years, just left for NC.

As much as shaw was a great actor Shakespearean and others. He was probably trying to throw his weight around to Richard, but at the same time Richard is in a world class himself he's one of a kind and I don't think he's getting the credit he deserves for any roll he plays but yet his mannerisms are impeccably impressive.

Fact is Richard Dreyfuss, a virtual nobody, dissed on the movie big time “PRIOR” to its release… What a DICK! A great book… a so so movie, but perfectly cast, great performances, and this clash between Dreyfuss and Shaw came through in their characters and ironically in real life. Shaw was a drunken egotistical bully, and should have been thrown off the set… but he brought out In Dreyfuss a performance that was possibly better than he was capable of under normal circumstances… Spielberg with his talent, refereeing, overcoming the fake looking shark, adding the milky pool water head pop out, editing, made this work in so many ways …

I have always accociated Robert Shaw and Stanley Baker. Both from British - Welsh for Baker though - roots and played in American productions. Both had the same kind of roles and both died of heart attack two years un between. The same concerning Steve McQueen and Paul Newman. Same kind of characters and roles, and both car races lovers.

Dreyfus was/is one of the most arrogant actors in the business. Not just my opinion. People hate to work with him. And even this movie was made Dryfuss before he was anybody.
