Another measure for speed are diamonds. Imagine a lag shot as being zero and each diamond after being 1, 2, 3, up to 8. Or, measure by full lengths of table. Since Sliding Spot is dependent on table size, the definition of 'fast' could correspond to power required to lag 4 lengths of table. That's a comfortable upper limit approaching the out-of-control anyway. It's also a fun way to win the lag if you've practiced it.

Wow, 4.0 -> 1.5 fast is exactly how I start looking at every bank shot to corner.
@PoolandBilliards
@PoolandBilliards Сағат бұрын
What is neat about the Sliding Spot is instead of using the 4-1.5 track line to visually estimate a nearby ball, the geometry works as an infinite track line, so aligning through any ball on the table (through the near rail) should require the same speed/touch as 4-1.5. I am not sure if this makes sense, but it is insanely awesome when it clicks. It also works with bank shots (video in editing stage).

Hi I messaged you about this too i think. I did use your system on the 8 ft valleys the other night. I didnt use it for all shots but works great on the side pocket. Either way i made all my kicks as far as hitting them. Practicing on an open table later that night on long kicks from end to end, open table, across center string. I still get confused that when i measure the 70 percent basis that i keep that pinch when going to the target ball, behind it on the end rail and put the basis on the 2.25 diamond? And then i keep thst and move onto the table to a rail nose width on opposite side of target ball, correct? Does the deal with the basis at 2.25 change when the object balls are in open space or against the rails? Just like the near rail cross corner the basis is at 2. When end to end, open space or not, crossing center string, the basis goes to 2.25, always, yes? But what if only the cue crosses the center string or what if both balls are on the same side of the center string (and we sre dtill kicking long end to end?) Does that matter as to how you measure distance?
@PoolandBilliards
@PoolandBilliards 32 минут бұрын
Indeed, long rail kicks gets a bit crazier, but if I read correctly I think you understand it quite well! The position of the cue ball should not matter in terms of the geometry, but it could matter in terms of rail action. Shooting the long way into the end rail, if the cue ball is near the end of the table (far from the banking rail) it is much harder to get the ball to the rail without developing forward roll. But, yes, once the object ball is past the center string, I use the 2.25 location for the starting point of fast speed and any required adjustments. Of course, the other difference is that the stick moves backward based on 70% of the basis, not forwards. I will add that the length of such shots is often so far that the angle chosen to shoot into the rail actually becomes less significant than any touch of English. I will make a video on this sooner than later.

Many people report the system translating very well to their home or bar 8 foot table, but not everyone. The biggest issue so far are tables with seriously old/dead rails. In such cases, the fast speed and slow speed aiming points are much closer than rails that are not stiff from age. I cannot promise my numbers work exactly, but they should be close.

I do not have video of it, but I use this same strategy on 9 ft gold crowns. Tip for fast speed is at 1.25 diamonds instead of 2. It works very well, but naturally every shot requires more precision with the extended distance and resulting trajectory compared to a 7 or 8 ft. I discuss equipment size adjustments like this in the video Principle 1.

3 hours last night on Sliding Spot results: I'm an average player, so have stroke issues and sliding spot worked great when I stroked well. It also made it completely obvious when either my speed or stroke was wrong. Loved it. Also found a weird spot on the rail right at 10 where kick was unpredictable compared to 8 and 12. The Sliding Spot system works! Tip: Make a line of 5 balls about a ball apart, then get your numbers to the vanishing point before shooting all 5. Try to maintain stroke and speed. You'll get 5x the practice. Found I couldn't remember more than 5 spots at once .. 8, 10.5, 13, 15, 16.5, etc. Helps to line them at an angle too, so the path is clear for each. Can't wait to use long rail kicks in a match and have people wondering what I'm doing with the cue.

This system is SO POWERFUL! Had a session last night and recorded the 3hrs, I made every single kick I had, both on the 7-foot and later on the 9-foot. I just brought a small note I left on the side table to refresh things between sizes. I was also surprised how fast and not awkward at all it looked on the video playback, seemed very reasonable, and was honestly FASTER than most people eyeballing them. Could easily do this system on a shot clock, and this was my first session even using it. I shocked a high fargo player when I made a <45 type kick long across the table, because those are very hard to judge, not with this system ;)

Fun right? Correct about the judging shots before this system. I had been using an imagined point that was a mirror "in the air" of the target pocket, with about medium speed. But never had a true idea exactly where that point was. Just approximated pocket to cushion nose distance "out there". Sliding Spot clarifies the true point of aim with given speed.

One thing I started practicing and it’s decent, I’m working on standing automatically the distance from the table that the cue stick measurements put me, and I can sight from there. Once I get my table moved into my place I plan on putting tape on the floor at the proper spacing and ingrain the movement into my routine for kicks.

So the point I would predict works is 3.3 diamonds out from the nose of the rail. To find this, measure from the butt end of the cue upwards, because that's the portion that should stick out off the table. Then align is and look where the tip is on the rail seam. It's worth setting up an object on a chair or end table at that point to check for accuracy for your table. I describe this process in the video on Principle 1.

I`ve been playing for fifty years. I`ve heard countless guys talk about these methods and go through all the measurements. But when you've done so many banks and 2,and three rail shots,you can see the path in front of you on the felt before shooting. As far as I know, this specific procedure and measurement has never been suggested before. I certainly agree that the bank-a-million-balls method, is effective, my goal is to make a system that a novice with a decent stroke can use.
