Why? Because they have consciousness and know a threat when they see one. As humans, we should thank our luck that more animals don’t because if they did… I moved to the mountains 6 years ago. I have been as close as 10 ft away from a lone wolf when walking my dog, it was a special moment. There is a bear I’ve bump into at least 3x a year when once again walking the dog. We recognize each other and he has never bothered us. My dog has been trained to sit when he spots bear or dear. I’ve be a vegetarian for 55 years. Just maybe that might have something to do with my reverence to my extended family. Unfortunately, some of my neighbours do not share my love of nature. They move in, cut down the forest, raise live stock with no respect for those who have always made this place their home. I lost my bear friend the other day.

I find it funny that Europeans are complaining about the start time for the race. I live in Canada and whenever there is a race in Europe, Asia, or surrounding areas, I am unable to watch live, so I watch the replays. It's just what happens when you have a sport that travels all over the world.
