the game design of this is so much more coherent and intentional than planetside 2. PS1 feels like the designers had real direction, vs PS2 feels like designers were being pulled in every direction without an end vision

TwistedMetal - Br20 Cr5 TR on Markov. Loyalty Until Death, Death before dishonor. Proud member oi Psychedelic Clown Posse(PCP) at at one time, TRG, The Metal Militia, and in my more chill era toward the end, Dogs of War. I'll never forget rolling highly organized and effective armor columns led by TheRedX. He was a real life tank commander in The Gulf War. He brought his knowledge and tactics to us, and it fit like a glove. I'll never forget having late night and early morning tower battles against TRITON of the NC. TRITON was arguably the most terrifying player to ever hold a Jackhammer in my memory. There are so many more names like TheOppossum, and many more I can no longer remember in name, but will never forget in spirit. I made core memories with these people. I was 12 when PlanetSide launched. I even spent a lot of time on Werner being silly and pretending to have a British accent in a zergfit called BHO. I was being young and dumb in BHO, but I still grew to love rolling with those guys. It was a nice change of pace from rolling with and against the killwhores on Markov constantly. I actually got myself in to a respectable enough position on Markov that I could, and was often asked to take command of a continent. I can tell you one of the greatest feelings I've ever had in gaming was making a call in global command for the entire faction to recall and gather for a raid in sanctuary. Then actually getting to Sanctuary and seeing HUNDREDS of players that made the choice to follow your command, and launch a massive counter or open a new front all together. PlanetSide is unrivaled and I will forever be chasing that feeling again. The Command Rank system is, or lack thereof, in PS2 is something I could never get over. I got to BR90 in PS2 and just got so bored with it. Everyones mentioned my gripes at some point. The lack of strategic or even counter play in the lattice system, the removal of player responsibility to keep bases powered, not being able to play tetris with my gear, etc. OH AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST....not having to have a DEDICATED driver AND a dedicated gunner(plural if you were in a Prowler like me) took so much joy from me. Having a solid driver was as important as having a main gunner that could aim. I could type out 100 more paragraphs and not even being to scratch the surface of my thoughts and memories of PS1. I would even take day 1 iterations of BFRs with 2.5 pop locked continent fights, a gnarly cavern fight with platoons moving/escorting modules from the core combat to the bases, and dropping in a few barely filled ANTS to bait out all the oribtals and deployables to have a chance at getting the primary ANT to the silo to watch it only get 20% power to the base and being happy that meant we got to continue our interlink farm for another 20 minutes, over ANYTHING I ever experienced in PS2. Some of the coolest things PS2 would later have to offer was never accessible to me because I didnt play enough to be part of an outfit large or organized enough to use the big battleship in the sky events. Its only my opinion, but I never understood how SOE dropped the ball so hard on PS2. Even though I played the shit out of PS2....I was chasing the PS1 feeling every minute I was logged in. PS If you read this, AgentSmith, I hope youre alive and well. Along with so many others.

This game was absolutly stunning at its time. Huge Continent Assaults with Heavy Tanks, Support Vehicles, Airborne Infantry and Air Support. Fierce fights for hours to get a single Watchtower and establish a bridgehead deep in the enemies territory. Awesome. 😍

Random showed up in recommendations - my fav memory of this game was "AMS Hunting" runs my Outfit would do on Konreid. 2 or 3 folks flying point in Mossy looking for AMS signs. When one was found you would go max ALT and "roll in" lighting up the cloak bubble with the chain gun, then peel away as a dozen or more reavers were coming in behind you with missiles to just rain fire down on the area. It was always a sight to behold - as effective as an OS, but way more fun!

This game and WoW easily are the best MMOs from the era. Was a member of TR, name was Mordordid. Fairly certain I was the youngest of the consistent players back in the day 😅 miss the people I played with constantly, even though I wasn't super talkative, (probably because I was 8-10 years old at the time) so many memorable Summers were spent in this game

Wow. Boy does that bring back memories. The music ... I could almost smell 2003. I had multiple computers back then and 3 accounts - so I could fully man a Prowler. When I played NC - my first empire - I would put one in the Gen in a Max. Then I could drive a Vanguard with the keyboard from one computer and work the gun with the mouse from another one. My problem - was that I really, really cared. The DuhEV's kept fucking up the game and I kept getting pissed off and quitting. I played from 2003 to 2007 and was active in the Art of War forum. I used to go over to the test server with my 3 accounts and test how things really worked. I really loved that game. I'd play 4 hours a night when I got home from work - then 10 hours a day on weekends and holidays. What was funny was that my proficiency would drop off during the week but then pick up again after I got that first long day in. Thanks. The resolution here is just great. This is a video I downloaded off the Art of War Forum. It had a really could sound track to it but I guess the morons who owned the music protested so the sound is gone now. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ2VnKqeoZKAasU .
