I still found it strange how people think waaaay too much into Necron. He says "I am the endless darkness" he is the void, he is everything that isn't. space and time. its what you could call a motionless engine or a technical "god".

Ive played this game when i was 13(35 now) Hills of despair is like purgatory of ff9, im convinced that kuja's final move (ultima) actually killed the party and by doing that the party got sent into a pulgatory stage where necron appeared. Necron is basically a god and probably the reason why it can see what the world of gaia is going through in purgatory world

Reminds me of P3. The stories resolution of Nyx is not as overidealistic like FF9. Love both.

I really like your point on why you've come around to enjoying boomer shooters. I've realized that humanity has come to a point where large-scale innovation is much harder to achieve in regards to art and entertainment. Music genres have stagnated (no more sweeping changes like the electric rock experimentation in the late 60's or the brazen hip-hop movements of the 80's-90's), hit movies are now more sensations than they are works of art, and AAA game companies are too busy trying to either scrape every penny from their player base or refining every square micron of a character's model to realize that they're making the same boring-ass game over and over again. The only way I can think to make something "new" again is to take something old and put your own spin on it, like how Beastie Boys and the Dust Brothers took dozens of samples from previous works to make their cult classic album Paul's Boutique, like how Tippett used an outdated animation method to create a beautiful and intriguing movie (I am for sure going to watch that now), and especially like how these new boomer shooter devs are taking the seeds of DOOM and growing their own unique games from them.

I think it's probably partly a result of mass communication - with so many ideas being shared globally, it becomes harder to work in a sort of local bubble and produce something that feels entirely original. I think to find the innovation you need to look away from the mainstream really, the time at which experimental stuff was mass market has long gone. As AI becomes more and more of a thing, companies are just going to be regurgitating and spewing out garbage to make profit. The future is mostly indie as far as I'm concerned - there will always be people working on truly interesting stuff on their own, it just won't always be in the movie theaters or advertised on the side of a bus or whatever. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed!

Ayyyyy your back! yeah one thing i like about the indie style of shooter is how stylised they are! I mean hell just look at how different all the games look in the intro section of this vid and how varied they are. Also, i tend to find the higher quality the graphics become the harder it is to pick out targets from the backgrounds. When everything looks amazing, nothing looks amazing. Then again I actually AM old enough to remember what dial up internet sounds like so maybe im just too old for modern gaming lol
@TheMissingV
@TheMissingV 4 ай бұрын
No I think you're right, there's definitely a lot of distinct styles - I mean, just look at every indie shooter I show in this video, they look almost totally different despite being made (I think?) in the same or similar engines. There's a really interesting upcoming shooter called Mouse, which is a boomer shooter that uses a classic cartoon artstyle! I think it's probably a lot easier to put that unique stamp on the game when you're using the Doom engine too.

I don't consider it an accident that FF9 came out more or less at the same time as Chrono Cross, which had a LUDICROUSLY confusing plot. FF9 wasn't generally like that, but Necron was inexplicable to me.

Honestly, I never thought of Necron as some sort of Bigger Bad or The Man Behind The Man. To me, a line from 8-Bit Theater, best sums up Necron: "Death is the natural state of all being. Life is the aberration. It is fleeting and full of pain. Come! Embrace the enternity in nothing!" And a line from the vampire in Final Fantasy I also applies to him: "All living things are born to die." Despite Queen Brahne, Garland and Kuja being those with horrifically high bodycounts, each of them valued life to an extent. Brahne loved her kingdom, it's people and her daughter before she lost her mind and decide power was more important. Garland wanted to ensure that the people and culture of Terra lived, even if it came at the cost of everyone on Gaia. And even Kuja's suicidal cosmic temper tantrum was done after learning from Garland that he had been designed with a short lifespan, and if anything wanted to be free from Garland's control and live his own life. As I see it, Necron represents the absolute nihilistic thought of life, that everything is pointless and we're all born just to die. But, as FFIX showcases, life isn't born just to die, it is born so it can live.

Necron is basically Square's take on Unicron from Transformers. Both are all powerful beings that are death and destruction incarnate! The only way that brings them life is all forms of negativity across their respective universes. Thus, they will come back.

I think you're REALLLLYYYY trying to make sense of a nonsensical boss. Just be honest, Necron is stupid, and anyone wanting to make sense of Necron by watching a 30 minute KZbin video just goes to prove how stupid he is in the game.

If square wishes to, IMO necron has that potential to breach other realities other than nine as viewer of sorts. He is already a terrifying entity that came outta nowhere. Since we already have sixteen titles of series, it would make sense that he judges worlds based on how these worlds either thrived or struggles forward. Personally I just wanna see necron again in a different ff to prove that these worlds are in a link of sorts

Zidane's character is all about accepting what your given in life and not dwelling on what is lost. As the flat arc character of the story it's what he teaches the other characters and near the end the message is tested by testing him. "You don't need a reason to help people." Necron takes Zidane's motto while bending it against the message Zidane delivers. Necron is not content with what he was given in life nor does he believe life should have to be content; he seeks to help by putting life out of it's misery.

- I FINALLY DECIDED TO DESTROY EVERYTHING AND NOW YOU D.... - Wait. Who are you? - Necron. - Are you Kuja? - No. I am Necron. - Are you mutated Kuja? - No. - Are you trance Kuja? - You already fought this one. - Then who are you? - Necron. I just told you. - Never heard of you. - I am... m-m-m... just a sec... <reads from a paper scrap> "a spooky thing that decided to appear from nowhere and destroy everything". - Are you related to the plot somehow? - Well, not really... - Then what are you doing in this game? - No idea. They just told me to come here, have a short speech, a battle, then I'll have my money. - Oh, yeah, a speech. I interrupted you too early. Does your speech have any clues? - They never actually gave me anything. "Just say something loud and scary." I decided to use the classic style of an overconfident psychopathic villain. You can't go wrong with this one. - I see. So basically you could appear any time and destroy the world whenever you wanted? Everything I done in this game didn't matter. - Well, sort of... Actually they probably had some explanation in mind, but they didn't tell anyone myself included. - Damn, why can't I just fight Kuja again? Even this would make more sense. - You can't. He is a good guy now. - Wait, what? WHY???!!!

Proposal. Vivi calls himself "Vivi" because he realized there were four letters probably on a cage or cell or pen. VI Roman numeral 6 The black mages in the village usually have a number associated with them. This is evidence of Vivi basically being a prototype.

This is surprisingly one of the darker final fantasy games in terms of existentialism, fatalism, and mortality. I mean half the premise of the game isan interdimensional invasion where a highly advanced species and planet are quite literally siphoning off the life essence of another planet and replacing souls with stuff that makes monsters. They're basically colonizing on a sci fi scale. The themese are simple enough to be understood and digested by a younger mind (speaking from experience here) while also being upbeat enough to make you want to fight on to the end. Writers did a super good job setting theme and establishing arc, from self-centered focus to a societal glance to a take on some early philosophy questions on life. I honestly think the problem is that due to the nature of the game the characters are indeed caricatures of personalities that appear one dimensional because they kind of have to be for the plot to go forward. You really wouldn't see a spin off game or story for a lot lf the characters because their simplicity ends with the conclusion of the story. This is just a basic lack of depth in order to make plot points stick for the intended audience. At the same time, if they weren't simple would they have been as treasured for our age at the time? I remember playing ffviii and just could not get into it as my 13 year old brain just didn't "think" like that. Yet i can almost tell you the entirety of ffix's story from old memory.

So hear me out. Endsinger from ffxiv is Necron done right. Both appear after you take out what you assumed would be the final boss and have similar motives. Bit where necron came at the very end of the game, endsinger came at the start of the final arc of endwalker, allowing her to be built up a bit more before the showdown.
