put a big heavy rider on any horse and endurance becomes an issue. Saddlebreds can be inter alia large for large riders, they are gaited for smooth ride, and have plenty of endurance.

I took my daughter out on a long ride today. She’s not brave enough to ride off the line at only 7 on a pretty forward little arab we own. I’m pregnant and my riding horse is very out of shape. I brought him and hand walked him along. I don’t know who was more out of breath. Me being fat and pregnant or my gelding being fat and looking pregnant. When we finally got home I realized our trek wasn’t long at all. We just were moving like snails 😂 This was a fun video. Thankyou for sharing

I agree with most of your picks, except you left out the Lippet Morgan and included the Paso. While exceedingly smooth, the Paso is a very exhausting gait and can't be maintained for endurance distances. I have ridden with people on Pasos. They were all lathered up and sweating profusely after just a such while. Great ride, just not endurance animals.

I was surprised Appaloosas on the list. One of the things Nez Perce bred them for was for endurance. I have read that the calcery horses, when going after Chief Joseph, really couldn't keep up. And my Appaloosas had wonderful endurance and suprisenly, so did my morgan shire cross. She could do mountains all day and barely get tired.

this was a technique the gauchos did so I tested it out! The consensus was... it definitely helped. ;) 750 km on a bouncy horse in a hard camel like saddle way above the horses back with no way to ride other than a chair seat means doing what the locals do because they know how to ride in their own saddles and gear more than we do.

Comfortable for the rider but what about the horse. Not impressed by not pulling the pad up into the gullett to stop it stretching taut across the withers when rider gets on. I ride my criollo in a Wintec Western saddle. I have one of the very few crillos in the UK, bought her from Germany.

Please ride Khthiyawari horse breed sometime if you are in india, Common knowledge in India is kathiyawari is hands down better then Marwari at endurance. Marwari are marketed and promoted much better that's why people outside India know Marwari more.

Yesterday I helped catch lose cattle on my arab quarterhorse cross. We went 32 miles. She's 26.. Mules can see their own feet so that's why they are so sure footed. I am personally very fond of the thoroughbreds. I have one and have worked with several OTTBs. They are highly intelligent and seem to pick up quickly what I am asking. At the same time most of them carry a lot of baggage that has to be sorted out.

Although, I absolutely love my Arabs for endurance. Mules have always been know in history in the States to be the greatest travellers. But it's no surprise about TBs tho, since they're distantly related to the 3 founding Arabians.

I am pretty sure Trakehner would make excellent endurance horses. 🤔 Never met any horse that could keep up with my mare - even now at almost 28 years old. (Not even the arabians that were actually trained for endurance competitions. 🤷🏻) Trakehners are just build differently. Of course they have plenty arabians and thoroughbreds in their bloodlines. 😉

@@EquestrianAdventuresses unfortunatly we never actually got into endurance. 😅 She has been mostly a show horse. (Will literally walk through fire with me. 😉) But we used to breed Trakehner and I could totally see them doing excellent in endurance. It's just not a breed people often think of when looking for an endurance partner. 🤷🏻 They do well in any other field and they definitly can go on for hours and hours without any problems. I would also love to hear the experience of someone who does endurance with a Trakehner. 😁 There has to be someone who does it. 🤔

Missouri Foxtrotters are a great trail breed. They're extremely surefooted, so much so they actually make the Grand Canyon descent regularly. They have a smooth gait and are very calm and intelligent. They're beautiful stock horse types and I would imagine they would handle endurance races just fine.

The top ten finishers at last year's Tevis Cup were all Arabians. If you want to endurance ride, you need an Arab.
