THANK YOU Yuliya, for sharing this Ukrainian cultural art that must be preserved. I have a question. Are embroidered clothes like vyshyvankas made from this kind of fabric, or is this cross stitch fabric just used for learning?
@ukrainianhandembroiderywit3447 ай бұрын
Yes, it’s only for the tutorial so that you can see better. For real vyshyvankas we use smaller counts. We have got a variety of brands, from a Ukrainian Edelvika fabric manufacturer to Polish, French and Italian ones. Also, sometimes we manage to get our old linen or hemp homemade fabrics from private vendors to get an authentic look of a cloth.

Thank for demonstrating this stitch. The close-up made it very easy to understand how to start the first X and how to continue the movement. Can you explain the word 'retaiz'? Does it describe the type of stitch? For example a stem stitch resembles the stem of a plant. Or is it a word that explains the meaning of the finished ornament element. Was the cloth cotton or linen. Should one have a low thread count, like x threads to the centimeter?

Hi Yuliya, thank you for making these wonderful tutorials. Is it possible to make a tutorial about making a vyshyvanka blouse from start to finish? I want to learn and struggle to find information for example how to position the embroidery designs onto pattern parts. Or maybe you can point me to useful information? Kind regards, Mayte

This is very interesting and useful! I've been trying to find tradition Eastern European techniques, and it's surprisingly hard to find in English. My one suggestion is showing a photo of the finished design for each lesson in the thumbnails. Making it easier to see what people are looking for will make people more likely to click, since often people outside of Ukraine know the look of the embroidery, but not the actual name.

This was very informative. I am looking to make a care package for an 82 year old women who was just rescued from the Ukraine and her family has her in the US now. What would be the best fabric and are there traditionsl colors she might prefer?
@ukrainianhandembroiderywit3442 жыл бұрын
You may want to find fabric manufactured by Zweigart. Look for their fabric which is 100% linen. Colors vary from white to black. We have got a vast variety of them depending on a region. I guess for an old lady pastel colors suit the best.

Outstanding instructions! My grandpa came from a small village called Likhachika, and emigrated to the USA in about 1913. He was an accomplished tailor that apprenticed in Kyiv. I am trying to learn the style of stitching typical of this area to make something that reminds me of him and our family culture. I hope that you and all that are dear to you are safe in these most difficult times.

Very helpful and clear, especially when played at very low speed - then I can match stitch for stitch. But why are there two base stitches unwrapped? Is the open diagonal from the lower left into the center usual in this village? Many thanks. Charlotte in California.
