Im getting ready to do a 71 with some very minty parts from a 72 women's bike. Both Sierra brown. I love the way these ride. I live in the middle of a wind farm, so i like having the gears. Plus i just love old bikes

Is the rear rack oe or aftermarket? Where would be a good place to get one? A good friend of mine is restoring one himself and we can’t find the rear rack for these anywhere

Columbia, ductile-steel garbage. The only thing that these old bikes have going for them is nostalgia. My bracket for rebuilds goes back to the mid 1980s, a time that witnessed the dawn of higher- quality bikes, particularly MTBs and, later, road bikes. Also what came in this time was standardization of metric for all fasteners.

My sons 1960s hawthorn had a light of the front never was able to get it to work so I bought a reproduction one and used the new insides with the old housing

I have some bikes that I have just for parts, or if I need something special I look on Marketplace or eBay to see if someone is selling the part I need.

The Typhoon had the same frame as the Schwinn Heavy Duti. Better paint. Different wheels/hubs and spokes. Per the Schwinn catalog the frame was "medium duty" but held up well over all the years. 😎
