Grealish is really good player, just man city misuse him. He should play at 8 position, he can do everything kovacic is doing. He can carry the ball, he rarely loose the ball, he can pass and dribble better than kovacic.

It seems like the biggest issue is that City's wings are dead. Grealish and Doku are gonna be key deciders in City's success next season IMO

Yeah we are sort of reliant on width when opposition sides make the centre so compact. Doku next season will be crucial as will Savio/another winger

Yeah this season was basically Guardiola constantly shooting his team on their foot by very had tactics and personnel, the most egregious one was probably put Alvarez in midfield while Foden had to do touchline duty.

I honestly feel Grealish and Foden in the midfield would be really hard to beat. Grealish isn’t a winger 3 full season here it’s time admit that’s not his best position

I think the RB he is raving over is Denzel Dumfries! Versatile and I know Nobbins likes Inter/Inzaghi so that’s my hunch.

Looking more into other options - Wilfried Singo? Diakite? Those are my guesses, all seem like good choices - young versatile options who are coming off good seasons
@Nobbins
@Nobbins 5 сағат бұрын
My 1st choice was initially Diakité, however after scouting him I don’t think there was enough evidence of him being able to do the ‘Walker Role’. He used to be a DM in the academy so there’s a chance he could do the Stones Role? But right now, I’m after a RB/CB who can also do the job at RW. Hope you like my suggestion haha!

Been looking forward to this since the season ended. A finely crafted fair and objective analysis Nobbins - well done!! That said, I HATED Pep’s super high line and respective derivative setups with it as every game we played we just seemed so vulnerable to the counter. I miss our defense of the Treble season and not having an anxiety attack nearly every time we turned the ball over like this season I’d be curious to get you thoughts on some of the drawbacks for Haaaland of the 2:3:5 (and derivatives of it) system. I thought Real Madrid really exposed the problems with it specific to Haaland. Yes our high line theoretically gives the opposition less space in which to operate but it also give us less space in which to operate as well. Our high line combined with slow buildup play allowed RM defense and their whole team for that matter, to flood the box thereby sucking out nearly all of the space that Haaland thrives in hampering him beyond what Rudiger and co we’re doing. It also made very difficult to get any balls through all the bodies and legs that were in the way. I recall 33 shots 8 on target and only 1 goal. Seems interesting that MU did a similar thing when they played us in the FA cup too: stay back, flood the box and allow City to have the ball as you mentioned earlier, using defenders as wingers is not much of a threat just like when we had Akanji at the top of the RM box, was not a problem bc he’s a defender. Just observations and so I could be missing something

I think The tactics were much better in the second half of the season. But we also have to note how much better player performances were in the second half of the season. Foden has to play in the midfield. In more then half the matches he played midfield he got man of the match. 12 goals and 6 assists in 17 matches is ridiculous. Those are prime ozil and de bruyne numbers

This should be a great watch, when Nobbinho broke down the back 2 system & Julian's impact at the beginning of the season, conceding a lot and dropping points at home and away especially without Godri. Whatever the next tactical shift is cause I know certain gaffers will copy Pep, it should be great.

No hate towards Alvarez - I like him as a striker, but why was Pep so dogmatic about playing him in the midfield? I'm concerned that he will again try to shoehorn him into the team next season.

honestly I believe its just because pep knows that he needs to give him game time otherwise he will very quickly move on to another team if he doesnt play. He wont work as a winger so midfield is the easiest position to put him in. Also against lower level opposition it can sometimes work to have an extra attacker

Ortega looked nervous, Ive not watched it back but at the time I thought he was close to handling outside of box. Stones start surprising w/ double pivot especially. I assumed he'd take Stones off at 1/2time either way. Rodri looked uninterested in being on pitch (very surprising but not). Phil coming very deep to get on ball. Kev was awful. Bernardo wont pass vertically. Arrrgh. Cant wait for the window to get cranking.

The key to dealing with this anti-football low-block garbage next season is dynamic direct attacking wing play. Simply can't play through the middle against a low-block. The space is in wide areas when dealing with anti-football. So players like Doku, Savio, Bobb, and possibly Frimpong will be essential to solving the anti-football problem. Cup competition knockout football presents a unique challenge because anti-football can be very effective in a one-off match where teams are just defending and playing to get to a penalty shootout like madrid or riding their luck and capitalizing on mistakes like united. So if we want cup success next season, then pep's team selection and tactics have to be on it from minute 1 in these one-off knockout matches.
