Great solution for lots of scribing situations like box beams, casing to walls.
@timmietimmins378027 күн бұрын
Was it just too difficult to make your knife shim exactly an eighth? is it sized so that the blade sticks out exactly the right distance? (an eighth above the bottom of your special shim)? I like the idea. I could see this as a replacement for the simplescribe, as it looks like it has a better reference surface, stores better, offers a better range of sizes, looks like it has a smaller minimum scribe depth, and has some edge case use, and because I think I prefer knife scribes to pen scribes. But I really don't get why you have a shim that must be removed in order to use them as actual shims? why isn't it a matching height to all the others shims? or if you can't make it that thin, why isn't it for example, the size of TWO shims?
@crownmoldingbyspectaculart94122 күн бұрын
@@timmietimmins3780 if I was to guess it has to do with the thickness of the magnets
@timmietimmins378022 күн бұрын
Ah. That makes sense. So they need the magnets basically touching, but they have to add the thickness of a knife blade? I could see that being the case. I still don't like it though. I think it would have been worth the effort of having it a standard size.
@BrianKliss21 күн бұрын
@timmietimmins3780 yep it was the magnets, they are 2mm and 3mm magnets, the end production models are barely noticeable, you'll need to mic them to see the difference. Razor Blades are roughly .5mm and has to be snug, but lift out with the other mag. Sort of nuts how many prototypes were made. The one in this video is a prototype, which was coming out like 3.1 or 3.2mm. It works great for what it is, a nice improvement to an already great product. Carrying around a fancy japanese knife just isn't practical for me, (although it does look cool).

Thank you for the 1/8 dropped-down tip. You might be the only one who mentions to do this. I have found not all support steel is made 100% straight. The 1/8 drop on the opposite end allows the support steel to make contact with the granite overhang, giving it the support it needs and allowing for a flat-level surface with no gaps on the side of the island between the cabinet and the granite. Another option is to use a router to make my recess for the steel supports. You can also use an oscillating saw, but it is difficult to keep it accurate and level.

I thought from the title this would be a tape with a square attached so you could mark 90 as you measured. That would be useful. This looks ridiculous.

It doesn't work with a Powertec track. The track itself is took thick and the screw threads don't turn enough to grip into the rack. They barely hang on and they will fall off, destroying your track. However, I got screws that were 1/4 inch longer and added a washer to shorten it up a bit. That together seems to have solved the problem. Just be careful. Don't murder your track accidentally.

I can get great tape measures with a clip built in, and most of my work clothes has a ton of ways to store my tools for easy access. Would never buy such a clip, just more stuff to get in the way. But if you made a clip for my hammer see that would be beneficial.

@@FastCapLLC I've used a similar product from Japan for 3 years daily that is fully plastic except the flange on the tape. The tape sits on the back of my hip so it gets in between me and a car seat many times a day. Surely a strong plastic will be plenty enough for this, and the weak spot will always be the screw and thread. A single point of contact with a screw will not be enough to prevent it from spinning, but it seems you have taken that into consideration with the additional protruding bit and a whole recess the flange sits in. Looks like a perfectly good product to me. I've made this work with mismatched tapes and holsters so I'm sure it will work perfectly fine with a system tailor made for the tape.

I can't tell you how many times I have dropped my tape from climbing scaffolds. Also, this seems better than tearing up the pockets of your pants. Hooking your tape to your belt every single time is too time consuming. This is the perfect remedy for that.
@FFFre4k2 ай бұрын
@@xxitz_pr0gxx631 Japan has done this for decades and for them it's because of the strict safety standards on drop prevention. But it can't be understated how convenient this is to use even when drop prevention is not the main concern. You don't have to look down to put away the tape, it takes literally zero effort in fact much like a dedicated pouch but without the bulkiness unsuitable for all day carry. I've used a system like this from Japan for 3 years and you would have to pay me big bucks to make me use them shitty ass conventional belt clips ever again.
