Older homes have such unique architecture. I'm loving how that short room divider/ structural support wall creates the perfect mid-room Island for the tree and layout! The kind of perfection that can only be discovered, not deliberately planned!
@CloverdaleTransitAuthority7 күн бұрын
@@billintex001 our house was built in 1912. To the one side of that interior wall is a double pocket door. And then there is the opening passageway that allows you to go directly from the dining room upstairs or turn and go into the kitchen. That made a perfect place to loop the outer track around the wall, hugging the wall and just enough on an old 36 curve to come around each end. I put that little wiggle in on both sides just to tuck it in tighter to the tree to keep it from where people are walking.

The wide two wheel set on those passenger cars had way to much wear on the flanges, and that might be the biggest weight drag on this train. MTH should have used the beveled fast angel wheels on those cars. The tight curve is the other operator issue here.

I have wanted to get one of these sets and convert it to 2 rail. Its just too 'scale' to run with my beloved pre and post war Lionels on classic 3 rail track. This is better suited appearance wise, running with my 2 rail scale trains. Nice Lionels on the bench there..

What happening When the car shorted the springs acted like resister. This allowed some of the power to charge up the engines circuit board. That is why the sound turned on. The short is in the top part. It most likely the two plates are touching. I bet it is next to where the springs touch. You can use a flat head screwdriver to spread them apart. Use a thin blade screwdriver or knife. To fix this spread the two plates apart. Check if it the still shorting. Now if you cannot locate a replacement part then you maybe able to fix the original yourself. You will need to remove both springs. You want to find a tool to reform the holes. Maybe a pencil or a metal rod. Be careful. Heat up a pot of water to boiling. Then dip the end of the part in the water to soften the plastic. Then ream the hole slowly. And reheat if needed. You can get compression springs online.
@rennethjarrett458022 күн бұрын
Thank you I was almost ready to scream to him LOOK at the TOP part.The springs just became the heating element. Nope just he just looked in the bottom where it was already proven to not have a short. UGH!
@trains1111124 күн бұрын
this what you do is cut the tubes off for the prings and get some platic tubes of right size thet can be painted after you glue them on. do not use springs they casude the short. so soder proper gage wire with enuff slack on on it from the pickups to the lights the slack is so you can open the car. They probly do not have parts laying around so thats what you do to fix it
@CloverdaleTransitAuthority24 күн бұрын
@@trains11111 that's what I was thinking too. The springs that were originally in there are trash. You can see that in the video. This will sit on the bench as a project since I have extra cars and it really won't pull more than three of those cars at any given time.
@NiallWardrop20 күн бұрын
@@CloverdaleTransitAuthority I see you found the short. It looks as if you could rip out the old springs, run a suitably sized drill bit down the tubes and fit new springs making sure the springs are free to move. Clean the points on the bus bars top and bottom where the springs touch.

Can you just use the bottom portion with the seats from one of the $10 cars with this shell? The issue as I see it is that the contact of the springs to the metal strips in the roof, were arcing. Not fully seated properly during original assembly. I’ve always wanted to buy this set, but I’m strictly a Lionel collector these days. I’m tempted. It’s a fifties era beauty!
@CloverdaleTransitAuthority25 күн бұрын
@@SoCal_Jerry well I have the extra cars so it's no big deal. This other one will probably sit on the workbench until I find a part, 3D print the part, or otherwise. It's a little more complex because there are two springs in there that are copper that will carry a certain amount of voltage. It's not a matter of just putting anything in there
@johnks673325 күн бұрын
For the plastic around the springs to melt the springs have to get very hot For the springs to get hot there needs to be a large current flowing through them which would lead me to think there is a short circuit some where in the lighting circuit Nathan5Chime said “it looks like the two metal buss bars are touching where the black screws hold them in place” I tend to agree with this poster If there is some way to increase the gap between the bars, that may fix the short To fix the seat unit I would cut away the melted plastic, replace it with some tubing & the springs from a ball point pen
@holtless24 күн бұрын
