I have four of the five add-on cars for this set. The first two, numbers 6-84724 (the baggage car) and 6-84725 (vista dome #500) were released around 2018. Two more, numbers 2227230 (coach #3155) and 2227240 (vista dome #501) are from 2022. I don't have and probably won't get the full vista dome car 2427640 as I am not fond of those cars, but anything is possible. If the Super Chief FT engine has the same pulling power as the recent North Pole Central FT, it will pull all of the passenger cars without difficulty.

Greetings. They do indeed make the dummy unit. #157. It's in the 2024 catalog. I picked one up in Nov 2024 as a Xmas present to myself. Expensive - it also has no lighting - but is worth every penny and looks super cool! It's nearly as heavy as #159 as well. Being a dummy engine, I was expecting it to be light. Love your vids and layouts btw! Thanks for sharing them.

There is a dummy unit as well as 5 add on cars . Baggage car, passenger car,two regular vista dome cars one is number 500 and second is 501 and then there's the full vista dome car. @ScramjetNY cool. Thanks for the update. I will check that out. I'm starting to wonder though, even though the locomotive has two motors, having a dummy a unit and all cars for the contest might start to be a little heavy for that one locomotive.

Really enjoyed your video and impressed with the Lion Chief set. Your wife did a SUPER job filming the Super Chief!!! I cannot get over that you bought this set on Amazon of all things. I’m collector of many post war Lionel trains but my favorite is the Santa Fe Super Chief. I have two 2343 units from 1950, one 2343 from 2005 and one super detailed version #16 from maybe 2010 or so. That 224 engine looks SO familiar. I think that’s the engine my brother had. He was born in 1940 and my parents got him his first train set in 1945. I remember my mother telling me how hard it was to get trains during the war because they were made of metal. I remember that coupler in the back, too. It was always a little fiddly to get it to hook into the coal tender. Question… what did that little toggle switch do on top of the engine? I love the TLC you give your trains!!
@CloverdaleTransitAuthority2 күн бұрын
@@cak813 thanks for sharing that story. Yes Lionel stopped making trains during the war and was working on navigation equipment for the Navy. The drawbar connection with the tender is definitely a bit fiddly on this model. The Taco on the top is for the unit that sets what did the train can go into forward or reverse using the transformer, or whether it just goes in the same direction it last went when you gave it power. It's called an e-unit.

They're pricing these things for people with a lot of money, not much sense, and FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) up to their eyeballs. Lionel's owned by a private equity group now. They don't know jack about trains, but they do know how to milk a business for every penny. Hence all the pop culture paintjobs on the same old toolings, they're trying to make everything an "instant collectible" so they'll be snapped up like other overpriced collectible knick-knacks. @RippysRails well I understand and I appreciate the humor however I will say this. My video is really to talk about the business model that Lionel has. It seems to me from my backseat driving position, that their marketing to a very small section of the consumer whereas before they were a broad model that marketed to a lot of different consumers. If whining about the price of something was destroying that industry then whining about the price of eggs and milk is destroying the farming industry not the inflated price of eggs and milk. Anyway like I said this is my opinion on it. Other people have different opinions that's fine I'm just putting my stuff out there to get a discussion going which is what you and I are doing. And I appreciate it.

When I enlarge the illustration of the Wheeling & Lake Erie SD40T-2 Rio Grande tunnel motor #2533861, it appears to have the initials "WE" just under the window above the road number. I have a picture of the cab of W&LE GP40 #302 that has the "WE" initials in the same place. This SD40T-2 engine is on my "maybe one day" list. I want to see the actual model before deciding whether or not to purchase. As for the FA-2 engines, the AA engines are $1199.99 for the pair, while the FB-2 units are $549.99 each. Just under $2300 MSRP for the complete ABBA set. That's entering Visionline Big Boy territory for a set of diesel engines. P.S. Hello to a fellow NE Ohio model train enthusiast.

@@OgdenTunkRR thank you. I Love Lionel and I love a lot of the stuff that they have done but I think their market research on this one was just off. Hey everybody has a bad year. Maybe they can learn a few things and make up for it in the volume two catalog. I'm not a big fan of battery owes either. But when you're looking at a cheap price for a family to start the kids off with an inexpensive train, this may be the solution. But then you've got to have something to move to. I realized that the legacy and vision Line stuff is for the high-end collectors and operators. However you've got to really focus on the mid-range Market two. You sell more Honda civics than you sell Maseratis.
