My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Douglas, who is a perfect gentleman, on the 10th June last in the Church in St Mère Église, which occurred purely by chance. With him was Captain Darren Cinatl who carried his national flag with such respect. There were only a few in the church when Darren began to sing the lyrics to the Band of Brothers theme music. It was an unbelievable experience and a most memorable occasion. Thank you Darren and our sincere best wishes to you and to Douglas.

I recently returned from a two week Band of Brothers trip. Our tour guide was George Luz,Jr. I was able to go to the church cemetery in Aldbourne where Dick Winters would go to rest and reflect while preparing for the invasion. George showed me the spot in Sainte Mere Eglise where Wild Bill landed. I was able to stand in the field where Easy landed for Operation Market Garden and see Norman Dike`s foxhole in the woods outside of Foy. Several in the group swam in the lake where Dick Winters would swim every morning in Zell am See Austria at the end of the war. Great experience!

As an ex paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division, I can fully understand their bravery and commitment to our country. I never made a combat jump, but I can feel their rush. God bless them all. And thanks for all they have done for us.

The farmhouse that appears at 6:30 below the jumper is the site a battle fought by D Co. 2nd Bn. 506th PIR lead by then 2nd Lt. Ronald Speirs of Band of Brother fame. I recognized immediately from wartime recon photos. It doesn't appear to have changed much from those photos. Several Americans were killed here and later that day Dog, Easy, and Fox Companies fought the famous battle of Bloody Gulch where the Battalion defeated a counter attack by elements of the 17th Panzergrenadier Division, also depicted in Band of Brothers.

So all these guys were born in Africa. Became U.S. citizens and then paratroopers. Thats interesting because the only African American I know is white. He was born in Africa and he became a U.S. citizen in 2002. His name is Elon Musk.
