1:17 The service standard set in my market on my 2017 V40 is 10000 kms. 40,000 kms old now, I just took a peep into the poiston tops through a scope & they're clear as crystal. Also just saw the service interval set on the USDM cars in a yt vid, it says 18000 miles! I custom build bikes & have spent 40 passionate years around motors. No matter what a car or oil manufacturer claims, an engine oil is incapable of serving and cleaning the engine through a period of 18000 kms while there are plenty compelling reasons for these guys to claim the impossible & add such ridiculous intervals to oil changes. It's the culprit of almost all things going wrong with modern engines today. All my motors don't see less or beyond 7500kms of oil, no matter what the oil. Be realistic, don't kill your car, get that oil out timely before it takes your engine out.

Any thoughts on why the engine races on a 2016 Xc60, after warmed up and having come to a stop light for instance it'll reach about 2800 rpms, for about 5 seconds, then recede to about 1200 rpms. Then again and again until put into gear. I believe the code mentioned a gas cap leak could trigger the fast idle. I went through 2 after-market caps with no good result before buying a Volvo cap. Just replaced it and sat in the driveway for 5 minutes to monitor the situation. So far no luck. Perhaps it'll work its way back to normal? Good snow day here in NH so I won't venture out until the plows do their work. Thanks.

Great Video. So I have one in which the coupler bolt got lost but looks in good shape. Do I really need to replace that bolt and coupler? Or do you think I can get away with some blue Loctite?

@thevolvoguy, as the oil consumption issue appears on a number of VED4 2015-2016 diesel engines as well, do you know if the cure involves the same improved piston+rings set as for the petrol VEP4 engines? Maybe you could share a PN of the improved design?

I’m sorry to say that the problems of the Volvo S 90 have not been resolved!! I bought a 2022 brand new from the dealership that I work for. It has been in and out of our shop three times with the beginning of an overheated engine Which led to a number of replacement parts, the list of which I can’t recall. I do know fuel lines and seals were replaced and the last message I received were the fuel injectors. I’m at my wits end, newly retired and I loved this car! It was my second S 90, the first being a 2020, which saved my life in a front end impact that totaled both my Volvo and the Toyota Sequoia that pulled out in front of me That’s why getting a second one for me was a good idea. I have all of the RO‘s that our dealership has processed on my car and I would love to see if I could send them to you for an evaluation. I am at a crossroads of letting the dealership buy it back and at my own added expense replacing this car or having Volvo give me, at no charge a five year extended warranty. I just found your KZbin channel and feel as though I might find the best advice here! Let me know if I can email all my documents to you. Thanking you in advance MG.

First time coming across your channel and I thought, why not. I’ll give it a chance... And you start off perfectly by wasting 10 seconds of my life begging for a subscribe with notifications, likes and comments.. BEFORE EVEN SEEING THE VIDEO? So stupid. Maybe give me a chance to get to see it first and THEN but like 3 seconds in the end. Immediate dislike and I won’t even watch it. Had your chance and blew it. Sorry, bye ✌🏻

Hi, thank you so much for all these great videos filled with amazing info! We have a 2016 xc60 T5 AWD fully loaded 5 cylinders purchased new from a Volvo dealership here in the Montreal and note the car has never been accidents , still original paint all over and maintenaned at the Volvo dealership only. This said, we have had the pistons rings, etc replaced after fighting with the dealership on oil consumption. So your info in this video is bang on and aside from that the car has been very reliable with now 132K KM. Also worth noting, this vehicle since new has had synthetic oil changes with filter every 8000 KM. I do have a question on a serious paint issues, if you do not mind me asking? We’ve had paint flaking and pealing more specifically the two front quarter panel and this all started only 24 months after delivery of the car to us. The dealer has registered it but the service manager keeps telling us it’s not bad enough yet to put in a claim. Your comments and thoughts please?

I have a 2013 Volvo S60 five cylinder turbo that I just got a few months ago and it’s burning through oil like I’ve never seen. I’ve taken it to my local mechanic and he has no idea what’s wrong with it. He told me maybe the turbo. Just today (second appointment) he told me maybe it’s the rings. I saw someone else’s comment that the ring warranty runs at 100k miles and mine is at 99k so I’m gonna to call the local Volvo dealer and see if Volvo will eat this ridiculous cost for bad design like they should. I don’t have high hopes. Bought the car 3 months ago for 9 grand and I’m already 6 grand deep into this thing. If I need another 7 grand of repairs then I might as well have bought a brand new car. Worst purchase I’ve ever made and there’s still potential for it to get even worse.

Hi, i'm from Malaysia and having a S60 2012 T6 3.0T AWD. Since this is about P3 issue, i wonder you came across below issue especially under a hot sinny sun day? Situation 1, reverse cam display juddering/flickering. Situation 2, rear boot/tailgate lock in Open state even it is close physically. Mind to advice which part i should focus on the diagnosis? Should i start with wiring/CEM?

In a Volvo this indicates that the engine control unit (ECU) has detected a misalignment between the camshaft and crankshaft positions Some possible causes of this error include: Camshaft position sensor: The sensor may not be working properly Crankshaft position sensor: The sensor may not be working properly Timing chain or belt: The physical components that connect the camshaft and crankshaft may be stretched or misaligned Wiring: The wiring harness connected to the camshaft position sensor may have damaged or loose connections
