Thank you! It allowed me to switch the car to neutral for repairs without finding the battery dead afterwards - it doesn't allow me to fully switch off the ignition when on neutral and the battery goes flat in a few hours already. V70 2008.

I just wanted to say thanks for sharing this video. It saved me from having to leave my car in a parking garage overnight and finding a tow company with a truck that could accommodate a 7ft clearance. I found this just in time after spending a few hours waiting for a truck and being told by two companies that they wouldn’t be able to move my car. Much appreciated!

If that is the case then replace the shifter as a unit other wise it's near impossible to clean it out.

The best thing you can is use glass cleaner make sure it has ammonia in it and let set to break down the sugar and the sticky stuff.

Hi thanks for the over ride video, I for sure had soda spilled in shifter cable but where do I spray the glass cleaner, do I spray from underneath?? Mine gets stuck in park most times

Kind of a related problem. I have a 2017 XC60, when I put the car in park and turn off engine everything seams normal. Then when I open door to exit I get a dash warning, "Car Not In Park". I can get the warning to stop if I move or jiggle the shift lever. Because shift lever movement stops the warning, I think it may be a mechanical issue rather than an electrical issue. Any ideas on fixes before I throw in the towel and bring to Volvo dealer ($$$) for diagnostics?

You can try to clean it. If there is any sticky Sugar stuff spray it with glass cleaner With ammonia In let us sit for a little bit the ammonia breaks them the sticky sugar stuff

I have a 2016 xc60 and I broke the shift button. I am still able to shift. I took the knob off and in doing so pulled the black wire lose and out of the knob. Is this just to illuminate? Would love a video of how to replace the knob!

Yes that wire is for the lights. You removed the knob the correct way but if you will it too hard it will pull the wiring as well. Common thing that happens.

If the over ride does not work the problem is not in the shifter could be the cable once you push the lever down it over rides the shifter and locks.

Yes in front of the shifter where the lid is open the lid and if there is a rubber matt remove it and there will be an opening you can use something to push the over ride and move the shifter.

Yes hybrid do not have over ride because they do not have a cable from the shifter to the transmission.

No if you have a problem it needs to be fixed but if the car need to be towed this is a way to get it in neutral

Hey Volvo Guy, I have a problem with my key fob. Everything works fine. My problem is this; I can't get my fob out of the hole. It won't eject properly? I have a 2008 S80 3.2 and as I said everything works fine. Last night I could not leave the key fob in the starter hole so, I worked it out and now I can't get it back in all the way. What do you think it could be? There isn't much videos on the problem on youtube.com. I think it's some kind of release situation. I would really appreciate any suggestions. Because having it towed to a garage may not solve the issue. Maybe it's something I can fix?

Yes it's the hole where you put your key in has a motor that pulls the key in and kicks the fob back out. It's called the starter control unit. It have to be replaced.

Wait. I was just out at the car and my car acts like the fob is in properly. I think the car thinks that the fob is still inside of it. Maybe I can drive it without the key?
